Common name: Hawaiian Elf Schefflera, Arboricola Tree, Dwarf Umbrella Plant, Moondrop
Botanical name: Schefflera arboricola (syn. Heptapleurum arboricolum)
- [ (shef-LER-uh) named for Jacob Christoph Scheffler, 18th century German botanist; (ar-bor-ee-KO-luh) meaning tree dweller ]
Family: Araliaceae (aralia or ivy family)
- [ (uh-RAY-lee-uh-see-ay) latinized form of old French-Canadian name for Aralie; the aralia family ]
Origin: Taiwan and Hainan
Schefflera arboricola (syn. Heptapleurum arboricolum) is a flowering plant in the family Araliaceae, native to Taiwan and Hainan. It is an evergreen shrub growing to 3-4 m tall, with weak, often trailing stems scrambling over other vegetation. The leaves are palmately compound, with 7-9 leaflets, the leaflets 9-20 cm long and 4-10 cm broad (though often smaller in cultivation). The flowers are produced in a 20 cm panicle of small umbels, each umbel 7-10 mm diameter with 5-10 flowers.
It is commonly grown as a houseplant, popular for its tolerance of neglect and poor growing conditions. Numerous cultivars have been selected for variations in leaf colour and pattern, often variegated with creamy-white to yellow edges or centres, and dwarf forms. It is also used for bonsai.

Couldn't believe it! After 8 years, the mother plant planted per comment disappeared this year and instead spreading a few wonderful Angels around and all are flowering this spring!! (For 7 years, the mother plant didn't spread any angel seeds though flowering beautifully every year!!)

A dwarf cypress tree welcomes a foggy sunrise in the Florida Everglades. My "medicine for the soul" when I am feeling a bit down is a quick trip to the nearby River of Grass.

As best I could determine this is a GE-built 20 ton box cab switcher although it may be rated slightly higher than that. It is based at the Sunrise Cooperative grain elevator in Monroeville, Ohio.
This NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope image reveals the subtle glow of the galaxy named IC 3430, located 45 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Virgo. This dwarf elliptical galaxy is part of the Virgo cluster, a rich collection of galaxies both large and small, many of which are very similar in type to this diminutive galaxy.
Like its larger elliptical cousins, IC 3430 has a smooth, oval shape lacking any recognizable features like arms or bars, and is missing much of the gas needed to form many new stars. Interestingly, IC 3430 does feature a core of hot, massive blue stars —an uncommon sight in elliptical galaxies — that indicates recent star-forming activity. Astronomers think that pressure from the galaxy ploughing through gas within the Virgo cluster ignited what gas IC 3430 had in its core to form the newer stars.
Dwarf galaxies are really just galaxies with fewer stars, usually less than a billion, but that is often enough for them to reproduce, in miniature, the same forms as larger galaxies. There are dwarf elliptical galaxies like IC 3430, dwarf irregular galaxies, dwarf spheroidal galaxies, and even dwarf spiral galaxies!

Handmade clay dwarf
Materials: natural clay, cotton fabrics, merino’s wool, felt, gold metal pin
I had a great time making this magical fantastic creature of the woods, a bit gnome and a bit elf is a dwarf pin that can decorate any corner of the house or clothes. The base is made by natural clay, after drying, I painted it and finally dressed it with cotton and felt fabric scraps. The hair are in soft merinos wool. Unique and original this doll looks a bit funny and ironic. Since I was a child I have always been fascinated by the "fairy world" with its small magical creatures that populate the woods.
The measures are about : 11 cm x 6 cm, the arms and legs are mobile, it can be pinned or standing up or sitting. The pin is wired on the back.
I hope you like it because I really did it with my heart and all my fantasy!

Wroclaw’s dwarfs (Polish: krasnale, krasnoludki) are small figurines that first appeared in the streets of Wroclaw, Poland, in 2001. Since then, their numbers have been continually growing, and today they are considered a tourist attraction: those who would like to combine sight-seeing in Wroclaw with dwarf-tracking are offered special brochures with a map and mobile application software for smartphones. As of 2014, there are over 300 dwarfs spread all over the city. Six of them are located outside the city at the LG plant in Biskupice Podgórne.
