Pterostylis nana Dwarf Greenhood, Bannockburn, Australia

Scientific Name: Pansarus pseudooculii orangium

Family: Breadbug

Olimar's Notes:

Just as dwarf red bulborbs mimic the appearance of red bulborbs, it was theorized that an orange bulborb-mimicking variant must also exist. Recent fieldwork has confirmed this theory.

Louie's Notes:

Although difficult to prepare, this exquisite creature is more than worth the effort. Great in fajitas!

Dwarf rabbits are a variety of domestic European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus). Dwarf rabbits are much smaller than normal rabbits, but are capable of interbreeding with them, so are not recognized as a separate species.

Purebred dwarf rabbits weigh 0.7-1.4kg. Their heads and eyes are disproportionately large with respect to their body, and their ears are small and carried high on the head. The exception to this is the dwarf lop — a cross between the French lop and the dwarf — which is both heavier (3.0-4.0 lb) than a standard dwarf and has long, dangling ears. Many different colorations make up breeds in dwarf rabbits, such as Himalayan, Red, Siamese, Chinchilla, Blue, and White-tipped Black.

A small black dwarf rabbit on a windowsill.Dwarf rabbits generally have the same behavioral traits as other domestic rabbits. They can be housetrained and can be socialized with dogs, cats and hamsters. Also, its a good idea if they're babies to feed them with just born nursing bottles for pets.

Most of the rabbits sold as dwarves in pet stores are not true dwarfs, but crosses between a dwarf and a standard rabbit. These "mongrels" are hardier, but grow to a larger size and lack the characteristic small head and low carriage of the true dwarf.

The Oriental dwarf kingfisher (Ceyx erithaca), also known as the black-backed kingfisher or three-toed kingfisher, is a species of bird in the family Alcedinidae.

This is a small, red and yellow kingfisher, averaging 13 cm (5.1 in) in length, yellow underparts with glowing bluish-black upperparts. A widespread resident of lowland forest, it is endemic across much of the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It is found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.

The preferred habitat is small streams in densely shaded forests. In the Konkan region of southwest India, it begins to breed with the onset of the southwest monsoon in June. The nest is a horizontal tunnel up to a metre in length. The clutch of four or five eggs hatches in 17 days with both the male and female incubating. The birds fledge after 20 days and a second brood may be raised if the first fails. The young are fed with geckos, skinks, crabs, snails, frogs, crickets, and dragonflies. The rufous-backed kingfisher is sometimes considered a subspecies.

The little known dwarf minke whale was only discovered in Great Barrier Reef (GBR) waters during the 1980s, and research into its biology and ecology has only recently begun.

During the 1990s, live-aboard dive tour operators in the Cairns section of the GBR began reporting in-water interactions with these whales along the Ribbon Reefs during the winter months.

Much remains unknown about these whales including population and migration patterns. We have no idea where are those whales out of those 2-3 winter months.

The Minke Whale Project fund has been set up by James Cook University to support research into dwarf minke whale biology, behaviour and sustainable wildlife tourism interactions. Donations can be made at www.minkewhaleproject.org/

Handmade clay dwarf

Materials: natural clay, cotton fabrics, merino’s wool, felt, gold metal pin

I had a great time making this magical fantastic creature of the woods, a bit gnome and a bit elf is a dwarf pin that can decorate any corner of the house or clothes. The base is made by natural clay, after drying, I painted it and finally dressed it with cotton and felt fabric scraps. The hair are in soft merinos wool. Unique and original this doll looks a bit funny and ironic. Since I was a child I have always been fascinated by the "fairy world" with its small magical creatures that populate the woods.

The measures are about : 11 cm x 6 cm, the arms and legs are mobile, it can be pinned or standing up or sitting. The pin is wired on the back.

I hope you like it because I really did it with my heart and all my fantasy!

Common name: Hawaiian Elf Schefflera, Arboricola Tree, Dwarf Umbrella Plant, Moondrop

Botanical name: Schefflera arboricola (syn. Heptapleurum arboricolum)

- [ (shef-LER-uh) named for Jacob Christoph Scheffler, 18th century German botanist; (ar-bor-ee-KO-luh) meaning tree dweller ]

Family: Araliaceae (aralia or ivy family)

- [ (uh-RAY-lee-uh-see-ay) latinized form of old French-Canadian name for Aralie; the aralia family ]

Origin: Taiwan and Hainan

Schefflera arboricola (syn. Heptapleurum arboricolum) is a flowering plant in the family Araliaceae, native to Taiwan and Hainan. It is an evergreen shrub growing to 3-4 m tall, with weak, often trailing stems scrambling over other vegetation. The leaves are palmately compound, with 7-9 leaflets, the leaflets 9-20 cm long and 4-10 cm broad (though often smaller in cultivation). The flowers are produced in a 20 cm panicle of small umbels, each umbel 7-10 mm diameter with 5-10 flowers.

It is commonly grown as a houseplant, popular for its tolerance of neglect and poor growing conditions. Numerous cultivars have been selected for variations in leaf colour and pattern, often variegated with creamy-white to yellow edges or centres, and dwarf forms. It is also used for bonsai.

OK a fair few years ago now, Gamesworkshop in conjuction with a games company released a game called Heroquest. (for those of you who remember that far back) It was basically Dungeons & Dragons simplified and condensed into a single boxset. It was this that set me on the road to where I am today with gameworkshop. I loved this game and played it with my friends and theirs and my kids, My son who is himself now an avid GW painter has fond memories of this and recently asked me to dredge up all my old Heroquest, & Advanced Heroquest stuff from my dusty old attic and let him have it ... well I did .. he loves it, and he painted this classic Dwarf hero from the set, re-basing it, and giving it a great paintjob .... he was reluctant to upload it, but I wasnt, So I take no credit for the paintjob but I do for inspiring my son to become a great mini painter ........
