We had a chance to visit some waterfalls near Asheville, North Carolina during a family visit in August 2013. The scenery there is great and it was good that there was a lot of rain this summer so the falls were running high. I love visiting this area and hope to make it back there in the near future.

DuPont State Forest near Brevard, NC, was loaded with these chanterelles (Cantharellus cinnabarinus) in mid-July. Not only are they beautiful, but also are a choice edible.

It is one of 4 major waterfalls on the Little River in this area, the others being Triple Falls, Hooker Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls
This is one of favorite places to ride. This spot was actually used in a scene from "Last of the Mohicans" It was extremely bright outside and I was still working on a good way to tote my camera on my bike. The pools were full of newts feasting on tadpoles! Up and under the falls!
This represents the culmination of a day trip that my partner, Walter Ezell and I took to DuPont State Forest near Cedar Mountain, Transylvania County, North Carolina.
I had been to this area ten days prior, and had seen the orchids in tight bud. I figured that they would be in pretty good shape on this day.
We had heard about this location from my flickr buddy, Kelvin Taylor and his cousin Cathy Howell. But on that trip last year, the orchids had already finished blooming. As you can see, they were in perfect bloom on this trip.
