Pavin Lake

Result of a huge volcanic explosion (maar), this Auvergne lake is 92m deep.

Lac Pavin is unique in France because it is of the meromictic type, that is to say that its two layers of water do not mix. The deep water is very loaded with toxic gas, fortunately blocked by the upper layer of water.

This characteristic has given rise to many myths and legends about this lake, which has long been called "Devil's Lake"

Thank you all so much for your comments & faves.

Doc captured this fascinating image with his drone. I couldn't get over the fact that the sunrays were so detailed from on high.

(This was not photoshopped - it is the actual rays from the setting sun.)

Wishing everyone a blessed and peaceful Christmas Eve.

Alaska is a state located in the northwest extremity of the United States West Coast, just across the Bering Strait from Asia. An exclave of the U.S., it borders the Canadian province of British Columbia and territory of Yukon to the east and southeast and has a maritime border with Russia's Chukotka Autonomous Okrug to the west. To the north are the Chukchi and Beaufort seas of the Arctic Ocean, while the Pacific Ocean lies to the south and southwest.
