The fountain, driven by three 600 horsepower (450kW) turbine pumps, sprays water at a rate of 7,000 gallons per minute though an 18-inch nozzle. With all three pumps and under ideal conditions, the fountain reaches 560 feet (170m) in height, though in normal operation only two of the pumps are used, with a fountain height of around 300 feet (91m). When built, it was the world's tallest fountain and held that record for over a decade.

Laura Gonzalez and I have driven out to Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge numerous times since late September to photograph the hummingbirds who spend a few short months in our area.
I cannot tell you how many strange stares we receive when passerbys notice us standing quiet next to various fire bushes and clusters of fire spike plants.
"What are you looking at?" I always respond by saying hummingbirds - if you stick around for another 5-10 minutes I guarantee you will notice them. At certain points I would have quite a few people quietly waiting for them too. Most casual / non-photographers are always surprised saying they had no idea hummingbirds were down here in south Florida.
Most of our photographs have been of females flying and feeding. I would notice the male hummingbird every once and a while and he seemed like a prude who had no interest in the paparattzi treatment; well until last January 4th...
It wasn't that the male spontaneously become more social with humans, but moreso that Laura Gonzalez and I stumbled upon his favorites place to perch and take a breather.
Those of you reading who have spent any appreciable amount of time observing hummingbirds have probably noticed they have their own favorite places to perch. Often times it's at the end of a high up branch. In this case it was a branch that was right in the middle the large mass of fire spike plants by the visitor center at Arthur R Marshall.
I'm pretty sure I said some expletives when I noticed the male's hiding place. He returned dozens of times and I don't think he knew that we could see him. I was getting fairly close too because I only have a 300MM telephoto which isn't the ideal reach on a full frame camera for such a diminutive subject.
I was hoping for more in-flight shots of him showing off his brilliant ruby red throat, but I am pleased and thankful I was able to land one and some others of him perching in his hiding spot...

A solar cell driven composition packaged in a standard CD-jewel case. This
release is focusing on the research for a way to actually hear the sun, the
exploration of the borders between instrument and phonogram, and the role as
a musician or a listener. For the transformation of sunlight into sound Mats
Björk have constructed a solar cell powered and controlled tone generator.
This is packaged in a standard CD-jewel case to give it the feel and the
attributes of a phonogram.
Connected to a pair of headphones, one can choose to listen to one of the
two parts this composition basically consists of. With the lid open, the
circuit (that also makes out the musical score) with its oscillators, is
carefully tuned for broad daylight to capture the intense piercing and
powerful energy, here manifested in the mantra of a clear but uncertain six
tone chord. Slowly shifting in pitch as the sun wanders the sky and
occasionally hides behind a small cloud, this part of the composition lets
you sink in to the relations between the tones themselves and between light
and tone.
By more actively interacting with the sun, or exploring the sounds of
artificial light, the piece moves into its more chaotic experimental phase
and you as a listener approach the role of the musician. Like zooming in on
the exploding fire bursts of the solar surface, the experience of minimal
noise clusters related to all kinds of light is revealed.
