Members of the #ItTakesRoots Alliance worked the land and met at the Urban Tilth farm in Richmond, California in the lead-up to the Solidarity to Solutions Week (#Sol2Sol Week).
#Sol2Sol is taking place from September 8-14, 2018 in the San Francisco Bay Area, the original territories of the Ohlone Peoples. #Sol2Sol will bring together frontline communities that have the solutions to the climate crisis, and who address the interlinked crises of climate, economic, and racial justice. Urban Tilth is a prime example of this.
Sol2Sol will feature cross-sector, solutionary strategy exchanges, local solutions tours, creative actions, and democratic popular assembly. Sol2Sol will provide direction on bold and transformative pathways for change and shift the narrative around false top-down market-driven solutions. We will illustrate how the most regenerative solutions to the climate crisis require not only decarbonization, but also strategies to decolonize, detoxify, demilitarize, de-gentrify and democratize our economies and our communities.
Urban Tilth, which is a member of the Climate Justice Alliance, cultivates agriculture in west Contra Costa County to help their community build a more sustainable, healthy, and just food system. Urban Tilth hires and trains residents to work with schools, community-based organizations, government agencies, businesses, and individuals to develop the capacity to produce 5% of their own food supply.
Founded in 2005 to help build a more sustainable, healthy, and just local food system, Urban Tilth has emerged as a local leader, a catalyst drawing together a variety of individual, discrete initiatives into a web of integrated, food and community-focused efforts. In sum, Urban Tilth farms, feeds, forages, teaches, trains, builds community, employs, and gives back. Urban Tilth helps their community grow their own food; train and employ their own young people as “home grown experts”; teaches their local residents about the relationships among food, health, poverty, and justice; and forges partnerships with local small farmers to increase demand for their produce.
Join us from September 8-14, 2018 for the Solidarity to Solutions Week to learn more about projects like Urban Tilth, to support frontline communities' solutions to the climate crisis, and to take action. For more information, visit: ItTakesRoots

Driven on last probably about 35 years ago, this carried drivers to a 90 degree left turn down Staines Avenue up ahead.
