Seeing ourselves through this lens there are 3 types of people: those driven for material purposes, those driven for spiritual purposes, and those driven for neither.
What are the results of each group?
Those without perpetual or even temporal drive achieve nothing, because results only come from endeavour, so no endeavour no results.
Those driven for material purposes may or may not achieve their goals depending on their karma, but whether they do or not, their real purpose - true happiness - eludes them, due to placing their confidence in the ephemeral.
And of those who seek nonmaterial purposes, Krishna says:
“By endeavouring for the nonmaterial one never looses anything, rather everything one does is a permanent asset, and a little advancement on this path can protect one from the greatest danger.”
Authorised spiritual pursuits produce enduring results which, unlike material acquisitions, accumulate from life to life until completed.
Being driven in this way also protects the performer from the greatest danger of descending into lower lifeforms.
Krishna concludes:
“Those who are on this path are resolute in purpose, and their aim is one, while those who aren’t so purpose driven squander their human energy."
