PThat body stretch from the warm comfy bed to peep through the curtains at a red glow in the sky was all I needed to entice me on to a bitter cold Dartmoor.
Madness I hear you cry!
I sensed the dramatic clouds were going to light up but realised that I was at least 1/2 late to drive, park up and walk up the nearest Tor.
So, I stopped beneath Sharpitor by the drinking pool for the ponies, sheep and cattle. It was like an mini ice rink and great to reflect the colours of the sky. The ice was thick so the animals couldn’t get to the water.
After rushing like a crazy man to set up the camera and get my warm gear on I decided not to hike up the Tor. Instead I stayed by the car to photograph the frozen pool. Luckily I saw the best of the sunrise within 5 minutes.
The vibrant sunrise display soon faded but I was happy to get a few shots. I headed up to Sharpitor then onto Leather Tor just for the exercise and maybe a few more photos.
An hour and half later I was back in the car warming up drinking hot steaming tea and munching on a chocolate bar. Someone had broken the ice in one area of the pool so the animals could get a drink😄

A close(r)-up of another one of Iceland's mysterious (ex-)inhabitants - a petrified troll.
Or a drinking elephant or dinosaur.
Or, for the more scientific, a 15 m high basalt sea stack.
Whatever you see in it - it's called Hvítserkur, and it can be found at the eastern shore of the Vatnsnes peninsula, in northwest Iceland.
If you have the time, the surroundings have frequently lots of seals to spot....
E' stato per una donna che ho cominciato a bere, e non ho mai avuto occasione di ringraziarla.
it was for a woman that I began to drink, and never I had occasion of to thank she.
Everywhere I travelled in Italy I saw these public drinking fountains!! The water is always flowing. This one is in Venice.
In this Mount recorded the steps involved in making hard cider, presenting an image of life on a farm in Setauket, Long Island that is vivid and cheerful, but also a thinly veiled allusion to current events.A newspaper story published in connection with the painting suggested the Mount modeled each figure as a reference to a participant in the presidential campaign of 1840,in which the Whigs defeated the Jacksonian democrats by promoting their candidate,William Henry Harrison,as a common man who would rather drink cider in a cabin than move into the White House.
I didn’t know the name of this spot until Google Lens identified it for me. The wonder of modern technology. This is on The Robin Hood Way just outside Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire, it’s also quite a well used mountain bike route, that being the reason for my visit.
Hmmm, Is this number three or maybe number four? Oh, who cares.

I thought she or he was drowning, put him on a leaf and on the ground. Later I found out they like to drink water :-)
As the light faded on 2014 we enjoyed one last drink of the year before turning sights to the new one.
These blue flowers were the hot-spot for several Ruby-throated Hummingbirds at Brookside Gardens. It was fascinating to watch several of them work the flowers over time, occasionally flying off in pairs as they "fought" over territory, and resting on the nearby branches from their exhausting flights. This female checks this flower for nectar as both benefit from the interaction, she gets the nectar and the flower gets pollinated.
Taken 6 August 2016 at Brookside Gardens in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Rock formation at Flambourgh Head which has throughout the ages been known as the Drinking Dinosaur. When vied from other angles it most definitely resembles just that a dinosaur Imagination is an amazing thing.
Enjoying some drinks after dark - some brave souls still taking the outdoor tables of the pub on the Royal Mile, despite being the middle of November! Another shot using the mini-tripod, sitting it on some barriers. Handy wee gizmo!
I couldn't really tell how the cops decided who to cuff and who to just confiscate alcohol from. The rules are: you can't walk around with an open container on the street or sidewalk. Some people just had to dump the beer, while this girl was cuffed, searched, and taken away.
