"Just having fun, two for one,
Let's watch a good time get a little better.
Ain't no ball and chain for the suits and skirts
Just drinks after work,
Drinks after work.
Tell me what's it gonna hurt,
To have a little drink after work?"
(Drinks After Work-Toby Keith)

All my guidebooks bespake of a country full of vending machines selling anything and everything. All I could find were thousands on thousands of drinks machines. Which was good because a) marching around on tourist duty is tiring, b) Japan is hot, and c) some of these drinks are quality.
I mean, look at the crazy can/bottle combinations here! All the convenience of a bottle with the handy size and cool metal effect of a can. Genius. On the left we have Fanta Melon Creamsoda, which for a while I was convinced was only available from one place in the world, just outside Fushimi Inari. I was of course wrong. The drink is nice but enormously, insanely sweet - and nothing to compare with Loves Berry, that's for sure.
Coke Citra seems to be the culmination of all those endless coke/diet/lemon/lime things they foist on us over here. Just chuck em all away and unleash Citra, please!
My cocktail, "The Red Spot"
As a foreword, I don't condone underage drinking, whatever that age limit may be in your home country. Also don't drink and drive.
To make one you will need:
ice
1 oz cherry brandy (or any other dark red cherry flavoured liqueur
1/2 oz peach schnapps
1/2 oz white rum (sometimes called silver rum... basically it's not brown)
1/2 oz of either lemon juice, lime juice, or sour mix. You choose based on what you have. Sour mix (which I used) has sugar added so If you use lemon or lime juice think about dropping in a pinch of sugar.
1 can of REAL mango juice, I used "jumex" mango nectar. You can get away with using a mango flavoured drink, but the thickness of the real mango juice is what gives this drink the cloudy jovian-like swirl effect. Say you only have mangoes, peel a mango, cut its "meat" off, and put it in a blender in a mixture of 1 part water, 2 parts mango and puree.
Procedure:
Put your ice in the glass. Pour in all the alcoholic ingredients, and the sour mix. Make sure your can or bottle of mango juice is shaken up as the pulpy and sweet stuff tends to sink to the bottom of the can over time. Then pour the mango juice in slowly to get the cloudy effect!
I made 3 of them tonight and drank them all differently...
Un-stirred, drank with a straw: you're sucking up the alcoholic ingredients at the bottom first. This way it tastes strong, with the refreshing mango taste cleaning the pallete afterwards.
The second one I drank un-stirred without a straw (big-boy style) and I got a bit of a mango/alcohol taste mixture, but the last sip was incredibly strong.
Thirdly I mixed the last one up thoroughly with a straw. It ruined the jupiter effect (which may be a satisfying drink-interactive for some) but all the ingredients were mixed giving a nicer flavour.
Try it!

With claimed health benefits going back as far as ancient Egypt when it was used as a herbal medicine, Aloe Vera drinks come from that same gel in the leaf used to fight sunburn and other skin problems.
Apparently containing vitamins A, C, E, B1, B2, B3, B6 and folic acid it's one of few plants to contain vitamin B12 (which helps with brain and nervous system function). It also contains calcium, magnesium, zinc, chromium, selenium, sodium, iron, and potassium, as well as amino and fatty acids. Strangely not all of these are listed on the label!
Sounds like a miracle nutrient-packed, cholesterol-lowering, weight loss aid, digestion and immune function drink. There are however, internet reports advising pregnant and nursing mothers to avoid it and the occasional warning that excessive consumption can cause regular trips to the loo. Perhaps that accounts for the detoxing claims!
