I drink alone, yeah,
With nobody else
I drink alone, yeah,
With nobody else
You know when I drink alone,
I prefer to be by myself
The other day I got invited to a party,
But I stayed home instead
Just me and my pal Johnny Walker,
And his brothers Black and Red
And we drank alone, yeah,
With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone,
I prefer to be by myself

Here's a Crossbill taken before the lockdown. It was drinking early morning from a puddle that still had a mosaic of ice from the previous night's frost. Alas it was against a really bright sun but the up side is that it shows the bill outline perfectly. I managed to capture a droplet of water falling from his bill, and it does not look like the cleanest of water as it looks amber. I just mentioned "his" bill, and I expect many of you will be thinking this is a female, but it is a first year male with a rather yellow plumage. The white wing bars identifies it as a first year. He was accompanying a female (with a very grey head) and two recently fledged juveniles.
Birds also vary in their need to drink water as some birds get the water they need from their food. But Crossbills have a diet largely of dry seeds, so need a ready source of water. Often the best photographs of Crossbills are while they are drinking at pools as they spend most of their time high in conifers obscured by foliage.
So yeah...I love Alice in Wonderland. In case you were unaware, this is the fourth Alice in Wonderland MOC I've done
Another shot of the stuffed big boy I posted a few days ago that was descending from a kjopje. This was where he was heading and after he had his drink he went back up another kjopie and took a well deserved nap.
Don't you just love his wrinkly stockings?
