The bronze sculpture "The Runner" in the Kiener Memorial Fountain honors Henry W. Kiener, a track star in the 1904 Olympics in St. Louis for which the park is named. Rabbi Peter Rubenstein, now the rabbi at New York City's Central Synagogue, posed for sculptor William Zorach in his Brooklyn Heights studio in 1977.
The city’s first courthouse in the block bounded by N. 4th, Chestnut, N. Broadway and Market streets was completed in 1828 and has undergone several demolitions and reconstructions. It was the city’s tallest building from 1864 to 1894. Henry Singleton and Robert S. Mitchell were the architects for the 1839 and 1851 renovations, respectively. William Rumbold was the architect for the dome construction, completed in 1862 Ironically, slave auctions were held on the Courthouse steps, mostly to settle probate claims, while others took their slaves here to obtain their legal freedom.
The Old Courthouse is famous for the site of cases involving Dred and Harriet Scott’s bids for freedom, beginning in 1846. After rulings that the Scotts should be free, the case moved to the federal court and eventually the U.S. Supreme Court, at which the decision affirmed lower court decisions reversing the verdict of freedom for the Scotts in 1857.
So here's every custom that I made in 2017. 2017 was kind of a rough year for me, but it wasn't without its high points. Dred Scott, a slave, sued for his freedom. The case was heard in this courthouse.
The historic Old Courthouse in St. Louis, MO- USA, part of the Gateway Arch National Park, was the site of the first two trials of the Dred Scott case in 1847 and 1850.

After the initial disappointment of discovering a DRED at the helm instead of the usual 68 on the 6U76 Crewe Basford Hall to Mountsorrel Sidings, our minds were changed when we saw the light on the front of this loco, 66433. The telephoto lens emphasises the dip in the line and road over bridge as it approaches Narborough. 26/5/17
On April 6, 1846, a slave named Dred Scott and his wife Harriet sued for their freedom in this courthouse. The Scotts had been taken by their owner to free jurisdictions and then returned to Missouri, a slave state. In 1857, Chief Justice Roger B, Taney of the U.S Supreme Court announced the decision in the case of Dred Scott v. Sanford. He stated that Americans of African ancestry were not eligible to be citizens, based on the historical claim that they “had no rights which the white man was bound to respect.” Taney’s opinion also declared that Congress could not prevent the spread of slavery into the Western territories. This decision fueled sectional conflict which led to the Civil War.

A fine example of "RHTT livery" - the traction used on railhead treatment trains definitely accumulates dirt while hauling the water jet wagons! DRS 37667 pauses in the centre road in Norwich attached to a set top and tailed with 66431 and 66432 working 3W97 1401 Norwich-Cromer.

Well, day one is in the books. Danbo got a new do huh. I think he was looking to soak in the hot tub and instead he found his way into my lens hood. Maybe he's still not in his right frame of mind from all his NYE partying....who is.
So with that being said. You get this quickie for day one.
