Saree-draped Statesque Arupa certainly grabs attention, irrespective of where she is. No way you can miss the dancer in her. When you get a little closer you realize her passion for the art form.
A disciple of Guru Chitra Visweswaran, Arupa though started early, took seriously to dance when in her graduation. It has been fourteen years of penance, journey has been ardous moving between Kolkata and Chennai. Yes, a lot has happened, some more to happen to smoothen the rough edges. I am sure with her dedication she will be shining on the firmament of Bharatanatyam.
I captured her performance at IHC recently.
St Andrew, Thorpe St Andrew, Norwich
Despite only being a 20 minute walk from Norwich railway station, the suburb of Thorpe St Andrew had, until well into the 19th Century, a quite separate existence.
The medieval church was largely demolished by the Victorians, and only the tower and part of the north wall survive in the churchyard. You walk through the old tower to reach the massive new church, which looks externally even larger than it is inside.
The interior gloom is leavened by some excellent glass and a most curious repainting of the medieval rood screen.
The setting is lovely, with the river running by across the road to the south. The church is open every day.
