Normally, this kind of "layered" sky only appears in winter

Nothing that dramatic. An Amish settlement had a disagreement over some issues. The conservative members moved to another area. Their houses sit empty. The more liberal Amish became capitalist in setting up factory farms. They build fancy new houses that look like they belong in a suburban. subdivision. I guess they took the seat of the swing but left the rope. Now the yards are filled with expensive big playhouses and fancy swings and water poisoned by manure and they, are voting for Trump. Traditionally they have not been allowed to vote.

Grand Canyon

Took this a couple Saturdays ago at the Griffith Observatory. The sunset was amazing and there were quite a few other shutterbug's with their tripods set-up shooting. The majority of them toward the sunset. I took a few shots toward the sunset and then notice the nice golden side-light coming in across Los Angeles and knew I had to run to get a different comp. Luckily not as many people had my brilliant idea and I had much more room to maneuver. I am quite happy with the way this turned out. Enjoy!

The sun is hidden just behind one large cloud mass, creating intense, fan-like ** crepuscular rays ** (sunbeams) that pierce through the deep blue sky. The bottom edge is anchored by the dark silhouette of treetops, emphasizing the immense scale and dynamic light above.
