This is how I test my patterns. The draft pieces are cut from scrap fabric and fitted for shape and contour, etc... I make my changes at this stage before moving onto the fur fabric. The fur adds a lot of bulk and volume to the hats. I might tweek it a bit once I get to the fur stage, but most of the time it works out well.
Just a hint, if you're going to work with fur you have to keep an eye on what direction the fur falls in. There's a "grain" to this fabric. It looks better if fur from different panels go in the same direction so when you sew it together it won't look messy.
Some progress shots of how Guy hats are made.
This is my new drafting table. Pictured on it is my first Illustration assignment. We had to set up a vegetable still life and then take pictures of it to compose a composition, and then we had to do four 5x5 paintings in acrylic. Though the last painting is mixed medium and I chose to use colored ink, which is what the ice cube tray is holding. The purpose of the assignment is to teach us different techniques for using acrylic paint, and get us warmed up for the semester.
INITIAL draft sketch of the GEO 24 ft timeline. Note this was created 6inches X 12inch to sketch out the concept behind the timeline. Content and layout not final. Final chart will be created using markers and pastels.
Note to Lori: Categories will be/are color coded so that participants can easily recognize conferences, key events, membership status, etc. as they scan the chart. External events will be outside items like the sailboat , the building, and blimps/airplanes to show how they are external to GEO but still affected its development.
