NS 12Z passes the CPLs at Stuarts Draft on a hot and muggy summer morning. Unfortunately, progress has been made in the slow signal replacement program along the Shenandoah Line, and replacements are standing here now a year later.

This horse has all the markings of a draft horse, a farm work animal usually used to pull carriages or equipment. It has large hooves and is built strong. The coloring looks like The American Cream, the only draft breed indiginous to the United States. It is considered rare because of a genetic condition that has reduced its numbers. Minimal texture added to reduce sunlight glare. If any flickr members recognize the horse breed, let me know because I'm not sure. The six years Lincoln spent in New Salem formed a turning point in his career. Although he never owned a home here, Lincoln was engaged in a variety of activities while he was at New Salem. He clerked in a store, split rails, enlisted in the Black Hawk War, served as postmaster and deputy surveyor, failed in business, and was elected to the Illinois General Assembly in 1834 and 1836 after an unsuccessful try in 1832."

Part of my lengthy chase of an early morning 16T between Buena Vista and Compton, Va brought me to the small borough of Stuarts Draft. Here, the train hustles north at track speed, passing one of the many ex-N&W signals that still guard the sidings on the Shenandoah Line.
The sun rises in the Shenandoah Valley over Stuarts Draft as the now fallen N&W protect the control point.
A trifecta of white pelicans glide gracefully across the sky. I woke up this morning with urge to fly. What I wouldn't give to be able to soar like a bird amongst the clouds.

It is with great regret that I anounce that Mr. Horton Nicolby has developed certain maladies that make it no longer possible for him to continue with this institution. I would hope that you would all remember the dignity of this firm and treat with discression the numerous lapses that we have all witnessed over the last few weeks:
For the indulgance in salacious artifce on company time and other work not aligned with company business
For the overall poor quality of his drafting, despite his obvious talents in the area of ideas, for which he was not hired in the first place
For the overall and consistant untidyness of his work station
For the random outbursts of bad language and strange euphoria that disturbed his fellow draftsmen
For the incident with miss Rose's Knickers
For the embarrassment that happend with our clients at the Atlantic Steamship Company last friday.
And for more reasons than I can enumerate at this time

It's this time of the year ! The best time of the year, means time for The Dog & Pony Show aka DAPS, who take place a whole month, where horses and dogs lovers got to buy new stuff !
