One of my students still uses her great-grandfather's drafting tools! She allowed me to photograph them as I knew some of my friends on Flickr would like to see them.

“Hitler ordered the construction of the fortifications in 1942. Almost a million French workers were drafted to build it. The wall was frequently mentioned in Nazi propaganda, where its size and strength were usually exaggerated. The fortifications included colossal coastal guns, batteries, mortars, and artillery, and thousands of German troops were stationed in its defences. When the Allies eventually invaded the Normandy beaches in 1944, most of the defences were stormed within hours. Today, ruins of the wall exist in all of the nations where it was built, although many structures have fallen into the ocean or have been demolished over the years.”

A drafting stool is specially designed to improve on the working conditions of anyone who uses it. It provides the proper support for the body, specifically the back that must be at the right angle at all times.

CHARLESTON, SC March 24, 2015 – As a sports fan myself, the NFL Draft is just as exciting as the season itself. When I say that to people who don’t see it as I do they always respond with statements like, “Its so boring though” or “I just don’t see allure to...

Walking around town I had seen people playing what I assumed to be checkers. While the start-up is the same as checkers this is draft. I found out the name when my host dad inquired about downloading a draft game. He was looking on a website that had downloads for fansasy football draft programs.

Looking to add some games to my Zambian life this is the draft game that I made for locally sourced goods. A colleague and myself went to the local shops to get the bottle caps. The only caps we could find two sets of twelve where from Castle and Mosi Lager. The board is a piece of A4 paper (no inches here) and red pen. I am hoping to upgrade the board to wood but the bottle caps are standard for draft here so they are fine. I should note that I am terrible at draft. The first few times I played I thought my opponent had messed up the rules or was making them up on the spot.

Rules: All pieces move forward on the diagonals one space at a time. If a jump, capture, is present you must take it or forfeit the piece and your turn. (same as checkers so far) Any piece can capture backwards and must if a jump is present. (this was confusing) If a piece makes it across it becomes a king (good so far) but it can jump as far as it wants on any diagonal taking any pieces it goes over. This means a king can jump a piece and land 3 spaces away. They are called flying kings. (this is where I lost many a game) Kings must also take any jumps that are present. (the only way to capture a king is to sacrifice a piece while forcing the kings landing option. Multiple jumps are possible for both pieces and kings like in checkers but regular pieces can jump backwards too and kings can extend the second diagonal as far as they like.

After agonizing defeat after defeat at these rules I became curious and looked up draft rules online. It turns out that their are allot of checker type games around the world with variations on the rules and names. This version played in Zambia is close to international draught.
