This is offal, called 'draf', it is the by-products of brewing used especially for stock feeds. There was a young farmer there, with his tractor and trailor.
On our last visit to 'THE' (BEST) BEER country in the world, Belgium, we had the fabulous opportunity to photograph in 'De Dolle Brouwers', a Microbrewery based in Esen in the province of West Flanders. The name means, literally, "the mad brewers" and this attitude is reflected in their whimsical graphics and adventurous brewing style.
"A microbrewery is a small brewery with a limited production capacity which, of necessity, produces labour intensive hand-crafted beers."
Artisanasal, because they still use the traditional methods and prime, natural and local ingredients, the grain, the hops...
The building housing the brewery is believed to date from 1835 and has a long brewing history since its inception by local doctor Louis Nevejan, having become the Costenoble brewery in approximately 1882 and remaining in that family for three generations. It was defunct when purchased by the brothers Herteleer and restored to function as a brewery in 1980. The brewer bought his machines from a no longer in use distillary in Scotland. Everything was freshly painted and neat, it was an interesting experience. A story to come, this is just the beginning...
Their main beer is Oerbier (9% ), meaning "original beer", this was the brewery's first product. It bears the motto "Nat en Straf", meaning "wet and strong". Addition of lactobacillus gives the beer a somewhat tart taste when aged. Hopped with Poperinge-grown Goldings.
And Stille Nacht (12%) Meaning "Silent Night". The brewery also releases annual "Reserva" and "Special Reserva" versions which are wood-aged and have an enhanced sour quality.
Beer in Belgium varies from the popular pale lager to lambic beer and Flemish red. Belgian beer-brewing's origins go back to the Middle Ages. There are approximately 125 breweries in the country, ranging from international giants to microbreweries. In Europe, only Germany, France and the United Kingdom are home to more breweries. Belgian breweries produce about 800 standard beers. When special one-off beers are included, the total number of Belgian beer brands is approximately 8,700. Belgians drink 93 litres of beer a year on average! Belgium, where a centuries-old tradition of artisan beer and cask ale production had never died out...
Trying out how close i could get while using the 11mm of the Tokina 11-16mm. This is about 60 centimeters from the racing line. Any closer and they would eat my head! Well, at least run by really really close ;)
A little peek at some of the handbound journals I made for my family this Christmas - each one had their own personalized paper inside, and I stab-stitched them all with my favorite yellow binding thread.

Op Breezanddijk. Lijn 350 van Arriva van Leeuwarden op weg naar Alkmaar stopt hier speciaal om ons te laten instappen. Lijn 350 heeft nier namelijk geen halte (wel op Kornwederzand en bij het Monument). De buschauffeur vertelde verbaasd dat hij een telefoontje had gekregen dat hij hier moest stoppen om iemand in te laten stappen en hij vroeg of ik misschien een bekende was van de baas. Maar ik kon hem vertellen dat dit het resultaat was van het schrijven van een vriendelijke brief aan Arriva.
Op die brief had ik een reactie van Arriva gekregen, inhoudende dat men graag wilde meewerken. En ik had daarop afgesproken dat de bus die om 17:15 Breezanddijk zou passeren mij op zou pikken. Maar toen we op de grens van Noord-Holland en Fryslân stonden, met het vooruitzicht op Breezanddijk ruim een uur op die bus te moeten wachten, had ik per SMS gevraagd of het nog mogelijk was te regelen dat een bus eerder zou stoppen. En dat werd toen gedaan. Service!
Achteraf gezien was mij de wandeling over de Afsluitdijk heel erg meegevallen. Ik denk dat dit vooral kwam doordat ik aan het begin van de dijk het Monument al kon zien, en bij het Monument al Breezanddijk zag liggen. En ook het autoverkeer, hoewel lawaaiig, bood afwisseling.
Overigens had ik Che de laatste kilometers toch aan de lijn. Op een gegeven moment liep Che ineens van de kruin van de dijk af naar het fietspad naast de snelweg. En al kon door de vangrail toch alleen wat gebeuren als hij met wat moeite onder de vangrail door zou kruipen (wat ik verwachtte dat hij niet zou doen) lijnde ik hem toen toch maar aan. Het gevolg was toen wel dat hij het op zijn, voor het naderende einde van een etappe gebruikelijke, draf zette (we moesten overigens nog een uur lopen). Dat dwong mij ook om in een wat hogere versnelling te gaan lopen. Maar als dat niet was gebeurd hadden we de bus van 16:15 waarschijnlijk niet gehaald.
De busreis naar Alkmaar ging verder vlot. Een comfortabele bus met electriciteitsaansluitingen voor laptops e.d., wifi, maar vooral een zeer rustig rijdende chauffeur, die ons precies op tijd in Alkmaar afleverde. Onze trein naar Utrecht stond daar overigens al vertrekgereed, zodat ik ook in Alkmaar niet de kop koffie kon kopen waar ik zo'n trek in had.

MEKO 200 dizaynı üzerinden geliştirilmiştir.
1987 yılında denize indirilen ve 1988 yılında hizmete giren TCG Fatih (F-242), 115,5 metre uzunlukta, 14,2 metre genişliktedir ve 4,1 metre drafta sahiptirdır. Fırkateynde 21 subay, 96 astsubay, 9 uzman erbaş, 59 erbaş/er görev yapmaktadır.

This might have been the most difficult photoshoot ever.... ! Very fast moving subjects, very variable lighting conditions (the sun shining through the trees created bright spots next to dark shadows), a very noisy background (crowd), etc.. The autofocus on the 28-300 wasn't fast enough sometimes,and although the D700 did admirably, I couldn't help thinking how great it would have been if I had had a D4 at this occasion.... !

Schip kwam even langs de kade, schipper er af, in draf naar het viskraampje aan Hartveldseweg, gebakken visje kopen, op draf terug, en verder met de warme hap.
