GM 222 propels the 0920hrs InterCity service from Cork to Dublin Heuston through Rathpeacon.

BR Standard 9F No. 92214 heads through Quorn and Woodhouse on the Great central railway. The 9F was hauling a goods train to Rothley.
Thats not to say that the ride was a washout. I was giddy as I could look over my shoulder and see people following up the climbs. That's something I have not seen in sometime. Thanks for the ride guys...

Premier-ICR set #38 (22 038) rounds the curve out of Sallins & Naas with the 0700hrs InterCity service from Tralee to Dublin Heuston.

The Down Griffith Xplorer has not quite cleared the section ahead so a caution aspect is still displayed on this Upper Quadrant semaphore signal at Galong, located between Yass Junction and Harden, on the NSW Main Southern line. Once cleared, the signal arm will point skyward. These remaining signals were replaced in December 2009.
DMU Class 101 heads through Woodthorpe on the Great Central railway. The DMU was working a Rothley-Loughborough local train, despite the location board stating Rugby.

2605/16 stands at platform 5 at Cork Kent, after arriving with the 1730hrs commuter service from Mallow. The unit will return to Mallow as the 1805hrs ex Cork.
Premier ICR set #34 (22 034) stands at platform 4 with the 1820hrs InterCity service to Dublin Heuston.

GM 234 approaches the former goods yard at Rathpeacon with the 0700hrs InterCity service from Dublin Heuston to Cork.
Recent works at Rathpeacon included the removal of cross-overs on the mainline, the turnout from the yard and the lifting of the track within the yard. The old turnout and cross-overs can be seen here.

ICR 30 (22 030) speeds through the North Cork countryside at Burnfort with the 1905hrs regional service from Tralee to Cork. This is the last service out of Tralee each evening, which connects into the 2020hrs InterCity service from Cork to Dublin Heuston.

A Conrail caboose on the rear local WICA4 peels away to the east across the Tuscarawas River at Massillon, Ohio back on May 11, 1999.
An empty coal train out of Alma pauses briefly for the conductor to reline the power plant switch. Once that's done the conductor will be taxied up to the cab and 9224 west will start its journey back to the coal fields on the wrong main as far as CTC Trevino. Between Trevino and Mears the St. Croix Sub crosses the Chippewa River on a single track bridge. After Mears the Alma empties will be on the westbound track. April 24, 1999.

After passing under Claude Road pedestrian bridge, high-capacity ICR set #43 (22 043) approaches Drumcondra railway station with the 0900hrs InterCity service from Sligo to Dublin Connolly.
This service is timetabled to call at all stations between Sligo and Maynooth, before running non-stop to Dublin Connolly.

Alta Via del Sale. In torrential downpour. For the whole day from 9 am to nightfall.
It was Alps Divide Day two for me. This weather was forecasted, but the extend and intensity was extraordinary. And it’s not me saying this. This came from quite a lot of very experienced people. Even people living in the UK and in Scotland and who have participated in events like Silkroad Mountain Race. E.g. both @Jennytough and @nielcopeland said this rain had broken the scale.
And wow - I literally rode through rivers running across the trails. At times just one side, at times on both sides. And it was chunky. As usual, the photos don’t do the real roughness of the surface justice. It was no mellow riding. It wouldn’t have even on good gravel surface as I did 3.400 meters of climbing on that day. But indeed it was a constant search for rideable lines over the chunky trails. Right through the middle of the streams running down the trails or next to it.
As long as I was moving and moving upwards the temperature weren’t that much of a problem. But for the descending parts the wet body had few reserves. Still not at the halfway mark, after quite a bit of a descending part and still 20 km from the next rifugio (i.e. more than 2 hours away) I was shivering so hard once stopped. Luckily I found a small opportunity to pull out my puffy jacket under a bit of shelter and put in on under my rain jacket. It took a while to stop shivering after staring to move again, but I finally could comfortably „swim“ all the rest of the Via Sale. It took me until well after dusk, when the rain finally subsided a little above Tende but gave way to dense and wet fog.
This was quite the experience.

The operational signal cabin by the level crossing at Errol Station. Errol station was opened by the Dundee and Perth Railway in 1847 but was closed to traffic in 1986.
This February 2004 photo shows the track across the Main Trunk Road A47 looking North towards Wisbech. The track was removed on the road in June 2005 but was replaced in Spring 2006. It was removed yet again in September 2011 in an attempt to cut off Wisbech for ever?
You have to visualise that in its heyday it was double tracked from March to Wisbech East Station and singled from there on. The track bed is in a very unsafe condition due to badly dried out sleepers that have caused the rail chairs to pop their holding bolts. wisbechrail.org.uk/learn-more/
Dies Februar 2004 Foto zeigt den Weg über den Main Trunk Road A47 in Richtung Norden suchen Wisbech. Der Track wurde auf der Straße im Juni 2005 entfernt wurde aber im Frühjahr 2006 ersetzt. Es wurde noch einmal im September 2011 entfernt in einem Versuch, abgeschnitten Wisbech für immer?
Sie haben zu visualisieren, dass es in seiner Blütezeit Doppel wurde von März bis Wisbech East Station verfolgt und von dort vereinzelt auf. 2601/02 with the 0850hrs well filled local service from Mallow to Cork passes ICR #52 (22 052), which is operating the 0855hrs regional service from Cork to Tralee at Rathpeacon.

An unusual thing about this part of the Union Pacific is that trains usually run on the lefthand side of the double track mainline. Metra 158 is pushing it's train back to Chicago, after quickly stopping in Geneva.

Southbound Union Pacific train MPRAS-07 speeds quietly through Beecher, Illinois today on Sunday, September 7th, 2025 at 1:35 pm with UP 8631-5516 and 102 cars of good mixed freight. Train was running on a clear signal on track 2. Train would crossover to 1 at Momence and stop the train and restart the leader due to loading issues.
UP SD70ACe #8631 was built by EMD in in June of 2008.
UP AC45CCTE #5516 was built by GE in June of 2005.
LM330 is seen after working track material trains to a worksite on the doubletrack mainline towards Lough ree Power Station
Fog hangs over Crockett in fall of 1977 and it's time for the twice daily San Joaquin to pass beneath the bridges crossing the west end of the Carquinez Straits and along the brick facade of the C&H sugar plant. FP40 # 222 and three cars make up the typical San Joaquin consist of the day.

NS 956 makes good time through the cut at Cave Springs after a stop in Burnside. This doubletrack portion was realigned in the 1960's as part of a major overhaul of the "Rathole," a name given to the CNO&TP due to the amount of tunnels along the route.

Ex-works DVT 4003 leads the 1020hrs InterCity service from Cork to Dublin Heuston across the Kilnap Viaduct, propelled by GM 215. The train is entering a 25mph TSR, which is in place until after the Monard Viaduct, beyond Rathpeacon.

When the Atchinson, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway ordered the 23 GP60 B-units I am sure this wasn't quite what they envisioned! However it was always a treat to capture a A-B-B-A formation of power, even if it wasn't entirely solid Santa Fe GP60s. An eastbound stack train crosses Bridge 3 in the heart of Abo Canyon with BNSF Dash 9s 4846 and 794 bracketing GP60Bs 334 and 345 on 26 February 1999. This location will have alas changed out of all recognition with the current doubletracking of the transcon through the canyon.
