Double rainbow. Taken during the summer of 2021

Football on the park and a poster of Bananarama! My Exakta had a neat double exposure mechanism. 1982 in Wednesfield. Denville in goal and Gary looking on.

This is a 2011 photo from my Gigantic vault of pictures waiting to be uploaded. Photographed in Fremont, CA I added several repeat shots in order to show the sequential arrow shaped hazard lights. All 4 rear axles on this truck have wide super single tires instead of dual wheels. The reddish-orange paint on this rig glows quite nicely in the evening.

I didn't attract hundreds, but I did attract three at one time to my asters the one nice day this week. I'll take it. I could only get two to pose with wings open.

trip together with martino_

Exactly one year after our previous photo-geek-trip together to the forest hospital we decided to go back, together, to the same explore location to shoot whatever we missed last time. Last year a security van approached us with high speed and as we grabbed our gear to run into the forest it stopped where we ran up the stairs.

We started our trip with an early drive to the abandoned house maison m. where we amazed us of all the personal things that were still there, touched and moved by others, we left all of it as it was and started shooting photos.

The original plan was to leave the night before, so with our new schedule we suddenly had the entire day to get to our final destination and agreed to head out to fort steendorp, 'cause we should get some great infrared results during daytime if only the sun keeps shining.

The fort itself is open for a tour with a guide once a week and left in peace for bats to breed, maybe we'll enter it next year ;-)

Back on track and with our final location nearby we start checking the area for a campsite, knowing the one from last time was perfect for wild-camping.

Close to an other entrance of our location we park the car to do a quick check and just to be sure, we grab our gear and head into the forest. Again, here we are, in front of the concrete wall, search for the gap, climb through and walk the trail towards the locked gate... We manage to get inside and silently walk to the small building we overlooked one year ago, our main goal, the morgue and see the new chain-lock wrapped through the door and a steel bar diagonal in front of it. A small broken window gives away the previous attempts of explorers to take photos here, but wait, the steel bar isn't mounted and without hesitation we quickly climb through the window one at the time and pass each others gear through... Our plan was to do it early next morning, but we suddenly realize were in... the morgue.

Outside again on our way back i spot the open door of the watertower and head inside to check it out. As we walk back to the exit were we came in, we walk the stairs again and this time we don't have to run. We walk to the car, pick the same camping spot as last year and after a good night's rest we pack our stuff and hit the road back home again. Only one stop left at an abandoned office building with the 'double helix' stairs.

Double exposure taken with the Lomo LC-W camera in that I previously used week 189 of my 52 film cameras in 52 weeks project:

The LC-W (wide) has a 17mm lens, and can take half frame, square or full frame images depending on which of three film plane masks is installed.

This film was shot using the half-frame mask. Kodak Gold ISO200 film developed in the Tetenal C41 kit.

A typical double room at the Pegaebong Hotel. The room had floor heating and was pleasantly warm. In the bathroom we were warned to be careful as sometimes the electrical wiring might somehow get in contact with the water installation causing electric shocks. Luckily, in our room we did not have a problem with this. However, the warm water was only available for about an hour and when we startet the warm water we only got a yellowish bad smelling water, not inviting to take a shower with and freshen up... Other rooms did not have the same problem and had perfect warm water, however some rooms were hot as a sauna as the floor heating could not be switched off.

Decided to have scrambled eggs for lunch. The eggs I have are pretty big and I was surprised to find my first egg had a double yolk. But then even more so when the uncracked one here was also a double! I shall go with the positive thinking that this is a good omen for the year ahead and hopefully I'll complete my second 365 project.

Good Morning 2015

Two frames from the Chaika II half frame camera scanned in. I used a roll of well expired Kodacolor Gold which was still OK. Pity the Chaika scrapes the film..... might be fixable?

Handcrafted in Italy, the San Francisco Carousel is intricately hand-painted and depicts scenes from famous San Francisco landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge, Coit Tower, Chinatown, Lombard Street, Alcatraz and the popular California sea lions at Pier 39. It is the only carousel in the country that has artistic renderings of its home city. Eighteen hundred twinkling LED lights illuminate this carousel, which features 32 animals to ride, including sea dragons, sea lions, dolphins, panda bears, and of course, horses. Amongst the intricately designed animals are chariots, and for the more adventurous riders there are spinning tubs. Throughout the ride, patrons hear traditional organ music and see PIER 39’s bustling promenade. The carousel is located on the first level at the Bay end of Pier 39.

This rainbow actually went all the way across the sky but I couldn't get it from the apartment window after I went in to grab my camera.

The optional theme for this week in the 365 group I joined is double exposure. I've never really been interested in this effect before, but I think it will be fun. Here's a quick attempt with two photos I took yesterday. It would have worked better if I had taken them with double exposing in mind. This week I think I'll try the long shutter speed approach and retry faking it... maybe. I also think I want to try the horse with it again...that's if the horse agrees.

One shot, in camera with one shutter opening... and closing, of course. Other than cropping, no Photoshop work. Shot created with the help of my daughter Rachel and our friend Melissa.

Happy Reformation Day, October 31, 1517. On this day Martin Luther nailed his 95 Thesis on the door of his church in Germany.

As to how this was done:

I developed this technique from the film camera days. You will need a tripod and an assistant. In a dark room – as in a basement – set up the tripod - and camera on manual @ 15 seconds and 5.6 to f8. Set an off camera flash to either full blast or auto @ say f8. Distance from flash to subject should be noted because with an off camera flash what matters is the distance from flash to subject not camera to subject.

Now, set your ‘victim’ in the first position – say the left side of the couch. Have your helper hit the shutter and walk to the right side of the couch – opposite from the ‘victim’ - and manually flash you pointing down from about 6 feet or so. Next have your ‘victim’ move to the other side of the couch and you assistant move to the left side of the couch. Have the assistant manually flash again from the same height but from the other side of the couch –the left side. You only have a 15 second window – the open shutter speed – to do this so practice doing this in the light and in the dark.

Adjust exposure from flash by either moving it closer of farther away. Do not ‘splatter’ the flash so that you minimize double exposure. Have fun!

I was lucky to witness this double rainbow on my first night in Nerja. Secondary rainbows are caused by a double reflection of sunlight inside the raindrops, and appear at an angle of 50–53°. As a result of the second reflection, the colours of a secondary rainbow are inverted compared to the primary bow, with blue on the outside and red on the inside. The secondary rainbow is fainter than the primary because more light escapes from two reflections compared to one and because the rainbow itself is spread over a greater area of the sky.

I found another Orchard Orb Weaver spider (after identifying the one I found at Port Royal State Park not long ago) residing on the side of the double-pen (double room) main house at The Homeplace last Saturday at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area (9-7-2013). These are colorful lil (yes, little, for both I've found have been about the size of my thumbnail) spiders I only identified after a helpful reply to my request on bugguide.net . All due apologies to those not overly thrilled with my frequent fascination with these critters, for I DO seem to shoot them all too often... ;-)
