This was the first time I had seen a juvenile Double-crested Cormorant with so much white still on it. There were 3 adults and 3 juveniles on the Sumas River.
Something a little different from me - I had a little play with in-camera double exposures and blending which whiled away an hour or so on the top of a rather wet Cumbrian fell.
I rather like the effect and will be trying this again for sure.

UP decided to put on a double act by assigning both 1983 and 1943 to the KC - Long Beach intermodal. From what I understand, both units trailed on a manifest into town the day prior. I’m glad they assigned the correct leader.

These double doors are all that remain of this ruin site. I would have loved to see it when it was fully constructed. Sadly, some very large rocks fell from above and crushed the entire left side of this set of granaries.

We were following the call of a northern spotted owl when we came across four elk grazing near the trail in Redwoods National Park. We never saw the owl but were entertained by the elk for a while. These two were momentarily curious about me but mostly just hungry.
A spectacular double crater dominates this scene on Mars, pictured by the CaSSIS camera on the ESA-Roscosmos ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter on 7 June 2021.
The crater duo is located in an otherwise smooth plain of Arcadia Planitia [39.1°N/174.8°E].
Double craters like these are formed when two meteorites impact the surface simultaneously and in very close proximity. The two impactors would have originated from the same object that broke apart when it entered the martian atmosphere. The two craters are of similar size, which means that the two projectiles were approximately the same size as well.
During the impact, the interaction of the two shockwaves created an ejecta blanket with a butterfly shape. The remarkable linear streaks in the ejecta material radiates around the double crater, and are an indicator of the good level of preservation of this feature.
To the north are large isolated hills that likely predate the formation of the double crater.
TGO arrived at Mars in 2016 and began its full science mission in 2018. The spacecraft is not only returning spectacular images, but also providing the best ever inventory of the planet’s atmospheric gases, and mapping the planet’s surface for water-rich locations. It will also provide data relay services for the second ExoMars mission comprising the Rosalind Franklin rover and Kazachok platform, when it arrives on Mars in 2023.

The yellow frame and red background could possibly be a previous Coca-Cola wall painted from an earlier era.

If you look carefully, you can see a set of double arches in the center of the photo, forming the left leg of the "V" in the rocks.

- www.kevin-palmer.com - I've never seen a double rainbow quite like this one. The way it appeared in front of the mountains made it feel like I could reach out and touch it. I got soaked and kept having to wipe off my lens as I shot a time lapse, but it was worth it.
Seriously, if you are not into fashion and weird camera tricks, you're going to be severely bored for…well, for a long time. I went to an exhibition at the Seattle Museum of Art, presenting Eve St. Laurent's career in fashion, during which, I finally figured out how to use my Fuji camera. I have been back in the hotel for several hours and have only worked on a few images. Each one can be edited in many ways, so that it does not resemble what I saw there, or even what I got on the SD card.
This one is an in camera double exposure, with a film running on the wall behind the mannequins.

When people ask me in the mornings how I slept I generally answer “Lying down”.
It puzzles me why they keep asking. You would have thought that after a brief trial of the alternatives they would have discovered for themselves that was the way to do it.
You won’t often see me taking pictures of slippers so perhaps I had best explain. This is for the Smile on Saturday groups Copyright by Mankind theme where we are asked to highlight one particular invention of the human mind.
I have always felt that, after the bicycle, the double bed must rank as the most important invention ever. Whoever thought it up (probably some palaeolithic hominid) ought to have received the Nobel prize. The facility of being able to safely drift into comfortable sleep while cuddling your loved one must be the most satisfying human experience attainable...
The inventions next in rank I guess would be the pen, and then central heating. And, to answer the obvious objection of the modern generation, we wouldn’t have the internet if we didn’t have the pen first. :)
This is a picture of a zipped and linked double bed. Two three-foot divans are linked together and the two corresponding mattresses are zipped, giving you a six foot double. This is large by British standards yet it dismantles easily if you need it to traverse the staircases of the quaint little houses we inhabit here.
We’ve always had a large double bed. Although it seems a luxury it does offer the undeniable advantage of reducing the damage done by the flailing elbows of the somnolescent slumberers. The downside is when we stay away. Then most nights are punctuated by surprise encounters in the middle of no-mans bed.
As a curiously irrelevant point of interest, I lived in Iran for a while as a youngster. When we returned to England my parents brought back a number of rather nice Persian rungs. This is one such.

Processed in Affinity Photo, sharpening with Clarity and Unsharp Mask, some more colour work, a bit of touching up to remove a dead woodlouse from the image, and a dark vignette.]

Double Arch at night, Arches National Park, Utah, USA. This is a "panorama" of multiple vertical photos stitched together. These were taken with a 15mm Sigma fisheye lens, so there is some distortion I could not correct for, but the idea was to show both arches of Double Arch, as well as the Milky Way showing through the "roof". The arch is lit with static or constant light. I used 2 Digital LED Video Lights. These are from a company called F&V and it is called the Z96 kit (96 LEDs). They are dimmable, and come with a "Warm" filter and a "Diffusion" filter both of which I used. They are made for video, but work great for this use. This is a good solution if you are alone and is more consistent than light painting. Several nights later I came back and used 4 lights to attempt more uniform lighting, which I will post later.
