OPTEKA Mirror Lens, 500mm, f8.0
I like it because of the color shift, soft focus, romance, intended softness, flare, and donut bokeh effect~
I took the 500mm mirror lens on an outing today. It is a monster of a thing to hand hold and focus; and it can result in lost shots because of its big zoom. But I love it. My rule today, as always, with this lens is no cropping.
Donut bokeh of a different sort. Haha. My nephew's beach birthday party yesterday.
BTW, he won the contest.
Another shot with the new Tamron Adaptal SP 500mm f/8 Model 55BB. I'm really enjoying this lens. The Bokeh will take some getting used to. Its not terrible though.

First shots with a new toy: Tamron SP 500/8 mirror lens.
My conclusions: it gives soft images with poor contrast most of the times but sharpening and adjusting curves in post-processing helps a lot. Nice to play with under extremely bright sunlight when the other lenses give too strong contrast. So the verdict is, it stays.

Fun with the lights at the top of the excalator leading to JoJo's. I was on the street taking this shot using the Cat lens on the 7D hence the donut bokeh.
Test shot on my tiny GF 7. Handheld. First time handling a mirror lens. This one seems really cool although its in pretty bad shape. Have to try it on the GX80 with ibis

I recently got a T2 adapter for an old 500mm/f8 mirror lens I've had sitting around. These aren't known for being very sharp and mine definitely isn't. Even with a tripod, careful focusing, and mirror lockup, this required a lot of selective sharpening. (I used a highpass/overlay layer and four layers of unsharp mask with successively greater radii coupled with successively lower opacity.) The sharpness issue is a bummer, but I like the donut bokeh.
