letzte Eindrücke von der dCUMENTA 13

Ongoing renovation of the damaged Huguenot House, that stood empty since the 70s, with construction materials from Chicago and Kassel done by workforce-development teams of both cities. Like the former project (the renovation of a similar house in Chicago), the plan is to turn the abandoned space into a permanent place for installations and social gatherings. The Guidebook: “The aim is to push the boundaries of labor and production to create space for others. Furthermore, the project explores the possibility of metaphorically mending the damage done by war through a diverse delegation of workers and artists (…).”

One of two semicircular tapestries - the other one being exhibited in Kabul at the same time. Macuga took pictures during two social events (one in Kassel and one in Kabul) and created two collages of these photographs, combining the different meetings into a fictional gathering. “Her new work is an exploration of a ghostly zone of half truth, a constellation of interrelated temporalities (…). Covering the entire wall of the Rotunda, it mirrors and completes the other semicircle in Kabul - a double attempt to represent the unrepresentable, a skeptical exploration of the criteria by which truths are stated and shared.” (The Guidebook)

Last week I visited the documenta(13) for 2 days and I enjoyed being there a lot - it was 2 days of wandering and strolling through a huge green park with art projects everywhere, museums and diefferent locations filled with art, many people and great sunny days full of inspiration.

Every five years, the city in the middle of Germany is transformed in a museum of contemporary art for 100 days. Since it was established in 1955, the documenta has come to be regarded as one of the most important and famous exhibitions of contemporary art in the world.

A picture of the re-purposed part of the Kassel main train station at the time of the dOCUMENTA(13). Did some quick editing on the iPhone with Snapseed.

When I saw the scene I wanted to have this kind of shot (with too much HDR effect).
