During forced labor in agriculture in the Dachau concentration camp, Korbinian Aigner (catholic priest and political activist) started to plant seeds of different apple trees. In his four years of imprisonment he succeeded in breeding four new strains (called KZ-1, KZ-2, KZ-3 and KZ-4). In a time span of fifty years, he made over 900 drawings of his apples, a collection of them exhibited at dOCUMENTA (13). The Guidebook: “Even if Aigner’s cultivation of new apple strains was a poetic act of resistance in the face of genocide, the names that he gave to them suggest that no manifestation of life could remain untouched by fascism’s abuse of enlightened thought. In this light, Aigner’s KZ apples poignantly symbolize the Holocaust as the fall of modernity.”

Last week I visited the documenta(13) for 2 days and I enjoyed being there a lot - it was 2 days of wandering and strolling through a huge green park with art projects everywhere, museums and diefferent locations filled with art, many people and great sunny days full of inspiration.

Every five years, the city in the middle of Germany is transformed in a museum of contemporary art for 100 days. Since it was established in 1955, the documenta has come to be regarded as one of the most important and famous exhibitions of contemporary art in the world.
