8 Camden Place, Bath. 24 April. Easter Sunday. 1859.

A very wet morning and an East wind. we were not able to go to Church, so had prayers at home, in the morning. and in the afternoon Sarah and I went to Christ Church, where Mr Wood gave a very good sermon, his text taken from the 118 Psalm 24 verse. We are to leave tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock for Swansea, I hope it will be a fine day.

Monday, 25 April. The Bryn.

Tuesday, 26th April. The Bryn.

We left Bath yesterday morning at ¼ past 10, Papa did not come with us, he is coming later. We got a carriage all to ourselves at Swindon, and were fortunate to keep it all the way to Landore.

Aunts Louisa and Dulcie were at the station to meet us, and Dulcie drove Mamma out in the pony carriage, and we all went out in a fly, with Aunt Henny and Aunt Louisa. We were much surprised to hear that Morton was at the Bryn, he is come for the wedding, and is going on Friday.

We had dinner at ½ past 6 – and after dinner Mr Webber, Miss Kitty and Felix, came over, and we had a game of commerce, which lasted such an immense long while that it was nearly 12 before it was over – we were dreadfully tired, and were not at all sorry to get to bed.

Today it rains – This morning, I did some italian in the Library. and this afternoon I sat in the drawing room and helped Aunt Louisa with some work. Morton spent the whole day at Singleton, & Aunt Caroline & Felix went to Swansea, so we were very quiet at home, and none of the Vivians came.

Wednesday 27th April.

It is dreadfully cold, and there is an East wind, we are in despair at having to put on such thin things tomorrow; I am afraid we shall catch cold. I hope we shall get back to Bath on Saturday. Aunt Dulcie has promised to drive me to the Mumbles this afternoon, I hope it will be fine enough to go, I should like it so much.

Capt. Crewe Read came here yesterday, but I did not see him to speak to, he is to be at the wedding tomorrow.

Thursday 28th April

Aunt Caroline is married and gone. The wedding was magnificent and everything went off very well indeed. The preparations began early this morning, and Capt Crewe Read was out here at day break, with his men and put up flags all about, and an arch over the gate, and made everything look so nice. I did not go down to breakfast, as I should have to dress again directly after, so I had breakfast in Mama’s room with Mama, At Henny and At Caroline. and after breakfast I put on my bridesmaid’s things, and got ready for the start.

I have just seen the most extraordinary thing

Call me naive

My mom pulled this out of thin air tonight. Things I like about it:

- The standard-issue indignant-kid surreality

- Youthful penmanship yields a bit to impatience by the end of the note.

- There's a beloved, graffiti-related family story about my sister's "signature" from that exact time period

"The automatic writing project started out as an activity among friends and locals. I would write a line someone else would write a line and so on... Then people would overhear us and ask if they could participate and write something too (which surprised me) of course I said "yes!" At that point I realized that lots of people have something to say. I started asking strangers to add entries, then I graduated to offering people $1.00 to participate, some people do not accept the dollar and some pay me a $1.00 (paying it forward). It's becoming quite a lovely, surprising and compelling project. People from many walks of life are participating: homeless, a news reporter, academics, doctors, drug addicts, lawyers, tourists etc... People have written things in my journal that they'd never say out loud, not to anyone. Some of it's so sad, some intriguing, hilarious and so on... At the end of the day, every one of these people understand that their entries are being uploaded to the internet and are comforted in knowing that they will be heard. I have no idea where this is going, but it's going just fine! FYI: English is not everyone's first language here. I will be illustrating the book/journal after the text is done. I hope that everyone who reads these entries learns something about people, mostly that we never know what someone else is going through.

"Sehr geehrte Frau Tappen!

Januar 1945 in Compogne 3 1/2 km ostwärts Bertogne, Belgien, vermißt.

Club Okay with new manager

This weekend, Club Okay will have a new club manager. Hans-Michael Tappen will be replaced by Wolfgang Hegner. Hans-Michael, who managed the club for over a year, turned the discotheque into a popular meeting place for young people thanks to his ideas and selfless initiative. Over 2,000 members is an impressive achievement. The purchase of a new amplifier system and the reconstruction after the break-in on New Year's Eve are also thanks to his energy. His fun ideas, such as the election of “Miss and Mister Club Okay” and the trip to the musical Hair, ensured him the sympathy of the young guests. Wolfgang Hegner, however, will prove to be a suitable successor.
