Bonner Ave. was reconstructed in 2005. But the City of Somerville didn't pay attention to Federal pedestrian rights of ways regulations. Also, they didn't pay attention to State building code.
The City says they will re-do this location during their 2015 construction season.

And here we are, at the top of the 313 steps leading down to the Point Reyes Lighthouse, perched at the edge of the rock, 120 feet closer to the sea. Without all this fog, you'd be able to see the lighthouse from here. I'd seen it in pictures taken from this spot for years. As it was, you could barely see to the bench on the first little platform rest stop, 35 feet down the stairway.
The stairs, of course, were closed.
At this point, according to my camera, they'd been closed for 23 minutes. A sign back by the parking lot had said the stairs were open when we got here, but the NPS ranger types passed us on the way out. They locked up at 4. I'd been bitten again.
Now, this one was mostly my fault, as I should have kept better track of time on our way to our loop trail and as we walked along the beach and as we'd driven the road to get here. I should have looked up the lighthouse's hours before we even came out, so I'd known when I needed to be here to see this thing I'd wanted to see for so long. But I hadn't. I'd made an assumption that it was a Saturday, and that something as popular as this would at least be open until sunset on the weekends when so many tourists would be coming this way. It honestly hadn't even occurred to me that they'd close the stairway. The lighthouse, sure, but you'd think you'd be able to get close enough to see it. That's how they'd do it in the Great Lakes, at least. And I assumed this even after my experience at the Marin Headlands. Which was dumb on my part.
But on the flip side, the hours for these stairs are pretty limited: Three days a week, Friday through Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm. Which is just cheap, if you ask me. It's a popular attraction in a busy state. Pay somebody to hang out here. I'll do it cheap.
So now, I'd missed both things I'd come to the San Francisco area meaning to see, and I had no expectation that I'd get another shot. We'd already come out to Point Reyes twice, and driving over that mountain to get here takes a long time, and we had other, more San Francisco-oriented things on the docket for tomorrow. I'd missed my chance. And I was disappointed and bitter. I moped away in silence. My mood matched the dreary heaviness of the fog.

In 1763, Patrick Henry, who lived and practiced law in Hanover County, argued the case of the Parson's Cause, a case involving King George III's requirement that Virginians pay taxes to support the local Anglican ministry despite their objections and those of the House of Burgesses. Henry, representing the County, accused the King of tyranny in overturning colonial law without regard to the wishes of his subjects.[4][5]
A new modern government complex with two court buildings was built and opened in 1979 adjacent to the 1735 courthouse, which is still actively used for periodic judicial proceedings to alleviate crowded court dockets and also for handling ceremonial events.[6]
On December 30, 1970, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places and on November 7, 1973 it was designated a National Historic Landmark. It is the focal point of the Hanover County Courthouse Historic District.
