This is page one of about five. Merely to show that not everything goes as intended. The testing I ended up doing in the Unicode conversion branch was nothing like this. Still, writing out ideas helped clarify my otherwise fuzzy thinking.

I'm doing a lot of Django programming these days. This is a graph of the models/database schema for a current project I'm working on. Man, am I glad I don't have to mange all that by hand!
We lasted exactly one week after our sweet girl, Sophie, was hit and killed by a car in April. The house was just too quiet without her crazy antics, so one rainy spring day, my husband and I went on the hunt for a new baby.
We started off at the city shelter and found some cute pups, but none of them captured our hearts, so we moved on to Pets and People, an animal sanctuary in neighboring Yukon.
When we arrived, Chuck and I began wandering around the large property, looking for a smaller dog with lots of personality like Sophie had. I picked a cute little black terrier to walk, but we were told that he didn't much care for kids, so he went back to his cage. Then, Chuck chose a brown mutt, who was happy for the walk but didn't seem too bothered to play or interact with us.
Disheartened, we decided that we'd go home empty handed and try again another day. Then, the lady who was helping us told us to wait. We sat down and played with some of the resident kitties and dogs for about 10 minutes, then she came through the doors with a white dog with floppy ears, very little hair, and a BIG stench.
He had just been rescued from another pound, which was literally minutes away from putting this little guy to sleep. Even though he smelled horribly and looked like he had never been clean a day in his life, Chuck and I immediately knew that he was the pup for us, and we agreed to take him for a walk to get to know him a bit. His easy-going manner and friendly personality appealed to us right away, and we piled Mr. Stinky into the car and headed home.
The next day, I took our new baby to the vet, who diagnosed a severe case of mange (non-contagious, thank goodness) and an ear infection, and prescribed all kinds of medicines and ointments to take care of the problem. After what seemed like weeks, Mr. Stinky wasn't anymore, and it was time to give him a real name.
Since we have a dog named Bix (after jazz musician Bix Beiderbecke), we decided to keep the theme going and named our newest family member Django (as in Reinhardt). The little guy quickly adapted to life in our chaotic house and helped all of us get over losing our dear Sophie. He's a great addition to our family.
About this photo: Today, we invited the neighbor's crazy puppy over for a play date, and she and Django ran, jumped, rolled in the mud, and barked all afternoon. This picture of our dirty boy is the aftermath of all of that fun. Needless to say, he immediately got a bath and is now back to being cottonball white.
