For many years my oldest sister who is now approaching her mid-eighties would bring a large dish of divinity with flecks of walnuts to our family holiday gatherings. It didn’t last long and you had to be quick to get a piece before it was devoured by the small village comprising our family.

One year with great anticipation I left the dining room table to go to the kitchen to sneak a piece before our main meal was completed but found several other kinfolk jokers had beat me to it.

That slow reaction on my part was quickly remedied in the years that followed as her special dessert was always a hit. I thought of those episodes when I spotted this beautiful natural landscape one frosty morning last week and realized that ritual was one memory that would no longer be repeated.

... is usually reflected light. Usually, as being the case here, it comes from below, from the world of the living. My alter ego Hermes here is illuminated from below by four LED spotlights. I then processed the raw image in Fuji's raw converter, Luminar, and in macOS High Sierra photo editor. This plaster cast head, a copy of the Olympian Hermes by Praxiteles, has been man-handled by generations of art students before being exposed to my kind of photographic inquiry. It is still illuminating.

Vrindavan is considered the birthplace of Lord Krishna, and the town is filled with temples and shrines dedicated to the deity.

During the festival of Holi, Vrindavan comes alive with vibrant colors, music, and dance. Devotees from all over India and from around the world flock to the town to participate in the festivities. The celebrations at the temples in Vrindavan are particularly noteworthy, as they offer a unique experience of Holi that is steeped in tradition and spirituality.

One of the breathtaking sunrises I have ever witnessed. The heavenly light and the mesmerizing lake mist rising as the sunlight kisses the lake.

Although I would have preferred shooting this with my Canon 6D, I am impressed by the picture quality from my Sony NEX. This was one shot handheld.
