NSLC Medicine and Health Care 11

The grade 11 biology classes recently completed their fetal pig dissection. This activity served as a hands on (hands in) review of their unit on “Animals: Structure and Function.” It was an amazing site to see each student relate what we studied in the unit to real life. Although some were apprehensive at the beginning, as the days went by all students forgot their fears and became fully engaged in the dissection.

One of the most intriguing pieces in the Road Trip exhibit was Map DIssection I by Nina Katchadourian.

According to a statement from the artist:

I dissected a AAA road map of the USA, removing all the land and leaving only the connected road network. The map was sandwiched between two large pieces of glass and suspended.

I can't imagine the patience required to do this.

The result looked oddly circulatory.

Sadly, after I took this, I was told that photography was only allowed "upstairs in the permanent gallery"; I guess it's a new policy (or maybe I just misunderstood the old one, though I was never stopped from taking pictures before)--one of my favorite things about the museum is that they generally allowed photography except for certain exhibits, for which "no photography" was clearly marked, but I didn't notice any such signs for this one.
