The Luminglas 20" plasma disk I found at a sale. Another thing I've passively thought I'd like to own and happened to find on the cheap. I'm pretty sure these were quite expensive in the larger sizes.
It is a very interesting design, the driver is nothing special, it looks like a HV - HF supply modulated in ways to respond to audio from an onboard microphone and a free running mode with intensity and frequency variations. I didn't spend long inside because I just wanted to see a general view of what it did.
The disk is what looks like a 3 layer construction with insulating beads between the layers, sealed at the edges, evacuated and backfilled with gas.
