there are total of 5 disks in this hard drive. I finally found a tool I needed to disassemble the drive completely. The shinny metal disk is where the digital bits are stored. If you want to be sure to destroy your data you have to physically or chemically destroy the shinny surface of this disk. I am working on that as I type this.

This thing is meant to keep stuff in the freeloaders from messing with the disk caliper. I think it was originally intended as a derailleur guard. Or something.

That washer wouldn't quite fit, so I had to file out the large hole in the guard to make it fit.

I may take myself out of the design... but it is 4:30 in the morning.
