Für unersetzliche Daten wie Photos mit Erinnerungswert und wichtige Dokumente empfehlen sich deshalb spezielle Datenträger zur Langzeitarchivierung wie z. B. M-Discs oder Magnetbänder (LTO), da gibt es je nach Anforderungen unterschiedliche Strategien und Lageroptionen. Online-Backup-Dienste können eine sinnvolle Ergänzung sein, sollten aber nie die einzige Methode darstellen und man sollte seine Daten vor dem Hochladen zusätzlich verschlüsseln.
