Near the hamlet of Ruderbaum, the remains of a Horgen culture settlement have been discovered. Below the Horgen site, there may be also be Pfyn culture site, but that is less certain.

The modern village of Altnau may be first first mentioned in 787 as Althinouva. In the 8th Century the Abbey of St. Gall owned most of the land in Altnau. In 1155, Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa confirmed that the Cathedral of Constance owned the church and church yard in the village. The vogt right over the church's farms belonged to the Freiherr of Altenklingen after 1300. During the Late Middle Ages, this right was given to several noble families from Constance; 1378 Schwarz, 1430 Tettikofen, 1468 Mangolte, and from 1471 until 1798 the city of Constance directly controlled the farms. In 1454 the villagers were represented in the Appenzell Landrecht, but following complaints from Constance they were forced to give up their membership. The rights of the village are first listed in the Gerichtsoffnung of 1468.

The right to administer the parish of Altnau went from the cathedral's provost to the cathedral's dean in 1347. After the Protestant Reformation in 1528, the few remaining Catholics were looked after by Constance and the village church became a shared church. This situation remained until 1810 when two churches were completed.

Until the 19th Century, most of the local economy revolved around three-field agriculture. About 1880 a dairy company was founded in the village, and livestock and cheese production became common. Viticulture was common from the middle ages until 1912. In 1840 the Seestrasse (Lake Road) was built, and in 1870, the Seetalbahn (railroad line) was added. However, neither the road or the railroad led to a boost in the local economy, as the station was too far away.

When we discovered the stray from the Winter was preggers with kittens, we decided to take her in on the screened deck. We fixed her a bed and she’s been out there for about three weeks. This morning we woke up to KITTENS!!!!! Six to be exact….everyone is eating and she’s taking good care of them. Being protective, but doesn’t mind if we pick one up or change the bedding. We don’t intend to keep any of them and will try to get them adopted. Momma, aka Miss Kitty, will be fixed and let back outside. In these photos, they are less than eight hours old.

Also in this photo it is not that I took the photo, I did that together with the model.

I was sorting my negatives when I found out that I had some slides left to scan from the Valencia batch. I've re-discovered this one I like a lot.

This will be the last picture for this set.

This little fellow really challenged me. He was racing around all over the place and of course never there where I thought he would go. But his curiousity was wonderful!

Wishing all of you a delightful evening!

As a woman born and raised in Poland and then living in the United Kingdom (UK), when I told my parents and friends I was going to Africa, they were naturally very confused.

I didn’t have roots there, I wasn’t going for school or was I travelling for work, and even more so I had no family in Africa to visit.

What’s more, many people close to me thought it was a dangerous, the ever-warring continent.

And these misconceptions were part of the reason I decided to visit this mysterious and culturally rich region of the world – AFRICA.

The White Corries

End of October and the clocks were going back… Bliss , an extra hour in bed…

However the first significant snows had hit Scotland’s Mountains and the forecast for Sunday was looking rather good…. Bags packed the night before and the alarm was set for 5.30am (well 6.30 body clock time!).

Feeling rather good when woken by the alarm (mainly due to the extra hour factor) I sprung out of bed and set about defrosting the car whilst making some porridge and getting set to go.

-3 degrees and the skies were clear as I headed north on the A9 aiming to meet Gerry at Choire Collie at a leisurely 0830 am. Arriving in unison we discovered out first problem of the day – finding a parking spot!! The place was heaving and it seemed a few cars had been there overnight judging by the frost on the windscreens. Subsequently we met a few people coming back down form the bothy after an adventurous evening.

Winter gear on for the first time this season and we were soon saying our hellos to the Wee Minister and not long after started heading up the slopes of Stob Coire Gaibhre. The snow line was reached and the landscape turned white with the monochrome landscape contrasting the bright blue skies. What a day it was turning out to be. After stopping for a small time on Gaibhre, we were soon heading up the 15th highest mountain in Scotland. The snow was laying a few inches deep and the rime was plastering the boulders. From our viewpoint the Grey Corries lay before us with The Aonachs and Ben Nevis providing a suitable back drop.

The slight breeze that had greeted us on Claurigh was now disappearing and the sun was beating down. I had to delayer and was soon striding along the ridge in my base layer, felt more like the Alps than Scotland! Days like these live long in the memory and we just took our time enjoying the views as we made our way along the ridge. To the south the great mountains of The Mamores, Glencoe and beyond were all instantly recognisable. Eventually we reached our final peak of the day – Stob Coire Easein and decided to leave Choinnich Mor for another day, a great excuse to return!

The day wasn’t over yet though as we still had a fair bit of walking to do. We had managed to park at the parking spots nearer the gate so decided to take the old tram line back to the car.

A nice route although one of the burn cross resulted in me slipping and face planting the rocks – I was thirst anyway so took the opportunity to have a wee drink 

What a grand day 
