Mount Vesuvius
is a somma-stratovolcano located on the Gulf of Naples in Campania, Italy, about 9 km (5.6 mi) east of Naples and a short distance from the shore.
It is one of several volcanoes which form the Campanian volcanic arc.
Vesuvius consists of a large cone partially encircled by the steep rim of a summit caldera caused by the collapse of an earlier and originally much higher structure.

Everything is this compact town is so perfect – the Market Square, the Cathedral, the numerous parks all look as if they were crafted by artists of note, which they were!
The city is very well preserved and clean to boot. It is almost like a stage set, nay, make that a movie set, perhaps a Disney flick?
Every window has lace curtains and flower boxes with geraniums, all the buildings are in good repair, and the architecture is infinitely interesting. Low-country designs of the Middle Ages were a matter of pride; every detail down to the outline of a window frame is beautifully proportioned.
In the heart of the downtown, motor vehicles are prohibited, except for deliveries during restricted hours, making it one of the easiest walking cities of the world, safe and well-signed. The winding cobbled streets, adjacent to the canals, are shared by pedestrians and the occasional horse-drawn carriage. Sweepers follow the horses and keep the streets litter free.
Restaurants serve authentic Belgian cooking, a strong rival to French cuisine, as well as numerous international style dishes. Fresh fish, cooked a thousand different ways, is plentiful, as are beautiful homegrown vegetables. Of course, this country is famous for its chocolate, a worthy choice for dessert. My own personal favorite Belgian meal is carpes frites plus pommes frites, which would be called ‘fish and chips’ anywhere else, but is in fact a perfect delicacy here in Bruges.
This cormorant caught 5 fishcats within few minutes.
He was really impressive.
I did the photo under trees at sunset so it was really hard to see what hapened in real life. Photos show it much better.
For the fun, few people stopped me to watch the photos on my camera and they discovered that the cormorant had a catfish in the beak, in real life it was too dark and the bird was too far to see anything.

Discovered in the garden the other day after a wild storm had lashed northern Sydney.
My roses were battered, and I lost a beautiful 'Apricot Nectar' floribunda that was snapped in half by the vicious winds.
However, amid the thunder, rain and fork lightning I ventured out into the garden to cluster all the roses (in the glazed pots) together for protection.
And the next morning I found these two roses together. My Meilland 'Seduction' floribunda is on the left (she's a French rose) - she's Juliet. And my 'Mr Lincoln' is on the right. He's Romeo. lol.
SO here is Kym Mazelle, from 1996, with 'Young Hearts Run Free' from the soundtrack of the movie 'Romeo & Juliet' starring Leonardo di Caprio.

We discovered a great pawpaw patch at a WMA north of here that Zebra swallowtails love. This species prefers to nectar on tiny blossoms like these (ID??) and wild blueberry in early Spring. This shot is not brightened nor saturated ... I wanted to show how their red spots naturally pop out at you - as if a child had opened a box of giant bright crayons and gone to work!
