project

Almost half a year goes by, so far 2020 has seen plenty of fears, disarrays and disappointments. For the sake of all living beings, let's hope and pray that the rest of the year will bring peace, health and lots of happiness to this whole planet earth.

Have a peaceful day, everyone...

Enjoyed a marvelous theatrical experience of Disney’s Lion King with my damsel and her sweet granddaughter at this gorgeous venue in San Francisco California, the Orpheum Theater on Market Street in the heart of San Francisco in San Francisco’s Tenderloin area. The Orpheum Theater a magnificent late Spanish Gothic theater that opened in 1926 originally as a showhouse for Vaudeville in San Francisco. It was renovated in 1970, then again in 1998 a major renovation that modified to venue to be able to stage Broadway type productions and is a locally designated San Francisco Landmark. Owned by BroadwaySF Theatrical Production Company which also owns the Golden Gate Theater a few blocks away which is owned by no surprise Robert Nederlander, the Nederlanders owns many of New York City’s Broadway venues. This image of the theater was taken right after the show but what not in the picture for the most part is the sad state of the Tenderloin area in San Francisco, to me having grown up in New York City area in the 1970’s and 1980’s very reminiscent of the general disarray and dismay that we saw in NYC during that era. Though I could draw that parallel, it’s not exactly the same, many business just boarded up with plywood painted black. Very sad as I image it was once a more vibrant area. San Francisco’s NFL 49er’s will square off against the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday in Las Vegas in Superbowl 58. #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #lumixlx100ii @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @kehcamera @mpbcom @visitsf @visit.sf @broadwaysf @panasonic @lumix @lumixusa #microfourthirds #micro43 #micro43photography

By hanging these young boys from a tree in the centre of Milan, Maurizio Cattelan, who specialises in shocking people, has succeeded in his aim. But beyond the museum effect, shouldn't we think about all those children from ordinary families who commit suicide every day by hanging, poisoning or other means? These three hanged children should not only shock us, they should make us think about the distress felt by more and more children facing a world in disarray.

Beyond the individual cases that may affect us personally, what about the children, real children with bodies and souls, who are being torn to pieces, even pulverised, by thousands in war zones such as Gaza and Sudan?

We see them every day on our screens – televisions, smartphones – and it seems to be taken for granted, as if there is nothing we can do about it. We are shocked by these massacres, but what are we doing about them? Gaza has provoked and continues to provoke demonstrations, flotillas have set sail without being able to reach their destination. As for Sudan...

Trois pendus

In the soft glow of a warm autumn evening, your heart craves only one thing: mac and cheese. As the golden sunlight filters through the French doors, it illuminates a kitchen in delightful disarray. The ingredients, carefully assembled – milk, cheese, pasta, fragrant herbs, and a fancy side dish baking in the oven – promise a culinary delight.

Amidst the chaos, a playful poodle clutches the dishwashing liquid, a silent reminder of chores left behind. But for now, the world can wait. It's time to savor the fleeting embrace of the sun's last rays, enveloped in the comforting ambiance of the Garden Hideaway.

I was so glad to find the Snowberry Clearwing cat I posted last week still growing and doing fine Thursday at Meaher State Park! Tropical storm Cristobal's tidal storm surge, winds, and heavy rains left this guy's area on the trail in disarray but he hung in, safely, on his Honeysuckle host plant!

Quite noticeable now are his big brown feet and the spiracles, the breathing holes on his sides, are much larger, now with two small white dots in each one!

Each body is the Harmonic and Proportionate temple of the soul. In the world the human should reflect its own goodness and beauty.

In reality, living beings and the 'systems' on which they rule are disproportionate and disharmonious. In fact we are in disarray.

Tito Presi Vitruvian man

A very young red squirrel sits on a piece of wood that is part of a fire wood pile. This particular squirrel was a runt and we named him William. He was so tame that my wife could hold him in her hands. He was a neat squirrel, he had his own feeder box and he would arrange spruce cones, seed and mosses in different parts of his feeder.

We left for a roadtrip for a few days and when we returned, we knew instantly something was wrong. William's feeder was in disarray and he was no where to be found. We never seen him again after our road trip. We hope he was just run off by another squirrel and is living in the woods by our house. The squirrel that took over his feeder was a larger female. We had a hard time warming up to her, but in time, she became on of the squirrels that called our five acres home.

~ In the Yukon some months ago, I found myself drawn to the whispy, fragile, white-tufted heads of Alaskan cotton grass glowing in what light broke through an ominous sky.

Their fragility so in contrast to the harsh environment there. But at the same time so much a part of it.

There is a ceremony among the Navajo called Beautyway. "In the Navajo view, the elements of one's interior life - ones psychological makeup and moral bearing - are subject to a persistent principle of disarray. Beautyway is, in part, a spiritual invocation of the order of the external universe, that irreducible, holy complexity that manifests itself as all things changing through time. The purpose of this invocation is to recreate in the individual who is the subject of the Beautyway ceremony that same order, to make the individual again a reflection of the myriad enduring relationships of the landscape." ~ Barry Lopez, Crossing Open Ground.

After heavy rainfall this past weekend, the sun came and lo and behold the appearance of a rainbow in the sky over the beautiful green patina of the Hoboken Terminal formerly the Erie Lackawana Terminal that opened back in 1907. When this terminal opened it was wonder, a real transportation hub prior to proliferation of the automobile. While the horseless carriage was in existence in 1907, at that point it was not for the common man. All the major railroads either shared or had their own terminals similar to this one on the New Jersey waterfront. The trains from inland all stopped by the waterfront from West New York down to Jersey City which all faced the island of Manhattan. Then the passengers would board ferries that would transport them across the Hudson River to New York City. So after a ferry caught on fire in 1905 and completely burned down this terminals predecessor, the Lackawana Railroad made the decision for a grand replacement and they hired Kenneth Murchison an architect from the firm of McKim, Mead and White the same firm that designed the masterpiece original Pennsylvania Station in Manhattan. When it was finished, it was originally a hub for ferries, trolleys, freight trains and passenger trains, and it was also home to a mail-sorting site and a Y.M.C.A. residence. Once the automobile became more accessible, like in the rest of the country, the trolleys were the first to go away; train volume continued to decrease. The ferries believe it or not actually ran until 1967 when the last ferry crossed from New Jersey until service started again 19 years later in 1986. The Manhattan Terminal or Hudson Terminal where the ferries ended up were along with Radio Row were torn down as part of the huge project that would become the original World Trade Center. The terminal fell into disrepair after that, almost succumbing to the wrecking ball several times, the beautiful 225 foot clock tower had been dismantled in the 1950 as the structure deteriorated to the point the city Hoboken believe it would topple over. What probably saved the Erie Lackawana Terminal was the same outrage that saved Grand Central Terminal, the outrage that came about at the destruction of Pennsylvania Station in Manhattan that gave impetus to the Landmarks Preservation Commission in New York. So this station lay in disarray though, not being utilized any near its capacity until New Jersey Transit saw an opportunity here, New Jersey Transit executive director George Warrington was key in the terminal’s acquisition by NJT [ flic.kr/p/effUkx ] The interior waiting room was restored [ flic.kr/p/nt7Kxv ], structural support was restored to the northern portion that was literally falling into the water, a somewhat shorter clock tower was put up (a faithful reproduction of the original) [ flic.kr/p/e9PcZK ] , 5 of the six ferry slips were fixed for New York Waterway and the beautiful exterior is in the process of being restored.

Sadly there was a thought originally that the Binghamton Ferry [ flic.kr/p/pDvYf7 ] which I have posted about is falling apart up the river in Edgewater New Jersey would be brought here to serve as part of a museum in one of the slips as it was the last surviving ferry that actually used this terminal [ flic.kr/p/ed8mAU ].

So the façade you see here were the entrances of the ferry slips, that’s why you see the one near the center has lettering that says ‘FERRIES TO NEW YORK’ and distinct green patina on the cooper surface which as I pointed out in an earlier posting of this terminal [ flic.kr/p/qfozbb ] was cooper left over from the Statue of Liberty.

Taken with a Panasonic DMC Lumix FZ50 handheld, RAW file processed in Adobe Lightroom.

This grand stair has seen the elevation and diminishment of strong climbers on the direct ascent that may become less steady and not so sure footed on their somewhat dizzying descent depending on their sociable reception of reverence, revelry and their aptitude for rambunctiousness. All that is sheer supposition of the progression of historical heights achieved and also of the downward floundering disarray of degradation in regression. All of this was swimming around my unsure head as my hips, knees and ankles offered to give way. The four broken toes were not to be considered as I tried to do this stair and the well within and without some justice in my pictures.

This stair is in Auchinleck House in East Ayrshire, Scotland. It will have seen and supported Dr. Samuel Johnson and James Boswell whilst about their ways to publishing, “A Journey to the Western Islands of Scotland,” also, “The Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides.” Dr. Samuel Johnson having risen to fame as The Man Of Letters of his age with critical acclaim and his outstanding lexicography work that would assure him a place in the Black Adder Pantheon of historical characters of true merit in the absolute finest of humours, “A Dictionary of the English Language. 1755, 1773.”

Blackadder, Ink and Incapability, Dr. Johnson being played perplexed over Sausage by Robbie Coltrane, Episode aired Sep 24, 1987, written by Richard Curtis, Ben Elton.

I happen to believe that I have failed in both pictures here produced together,

A staircase, no a challenge accepted and an achievement attempted

A stairwell staring back and questioning, “How you can picture it?”

I need to return and with crushed toes try much harder to achieve a result worthy of the Stair and of the Well both Inner and Outer.

"Some people choose to see the ugliness in this world, the disarray. I choose to see the beauty. To believe there is an order to our days. A purpose."

as we were driving home yesterday, Ross noticed that one of my favourite heritage homes in Ladner was in disarray. He parked so I could go explore. It is being raised, not demolished, Phew ! The staircase had been removed and was near the most glorious huge tree, which must have been planted when the house was built in 1911. I'm looking forward to how it looks when finished.
