The building to the right is St Stephen's Chapel; designed by notable English architect Augustus Pugin and built in 1850, it was the principal place of worship for Brisbane's Roman Catholic population during Brisbane's convict era. This is now the oldest existing church building in Brisbane.
The Chapel proved to be too small for the growing population and architect Benjamin Backhouse was directed by Bishop James Quinn to design a new cathedral. Although work commenced in 1863, an economic depression delayed its opening until 1874 - even though it was not completed until much later. The Cathedral is built in the style of the Gothic Revival from sandstone quarried locally.

Weaving traditional African melodies together with driving house beats and electrifying African choreography and design, this crowded stage full of noisy shamans of the night fuse together the old and the new, beating to the multicultural pulse of 21st century Africa.
In shamanistic ceremonies conducted through rural villages in South Africa’s heartlands, ancestral spirits are summoned and revered with songs that arise from dreams. In the township churches, soaring gospel songs lead people into states of spiritual communion and trance. And in a striking new modern forum, House of the Holy Afro weaves all these influences and melodies together with the jolting beats of electro-house and modern dance to create a highly stylized package of Afro-kitsch that will electrify the eyes, ears and bodies of everyone on the dance floor.
This exuberant nigh club spectacular directed by Brett Bailey unites three of South Africa’s hottest acts – innovative live performance company Third World Bunfight, hip club poet Odidi Mfenyana acting as event MC, and DJ Dino Moran, a pioneer in afro-fusion music who has headlined such events as Pacha (Ibiza), Ministry of Sound (London) and Tank (Sydney). Choreographed by Natalie Fisher, seven dancers and singers on stage provide uninhibited and wildly energetic animation to this audacious fusion of the urban and traditional, of raucously sung gospel and pulsing house beats, of slam-poetry and Afro-pop, to create an explosive night of driving rhythms, soaring harmonies and outlandishly irreverent kitsch.
Under Artistic Director Brett Bailey, Third World Bunfight has been making provocative, celebratory African performance works since the troupe was formed in South Africa in 1996. House of the Holy Afro has been its most successful international show, (no, has not won: winning several awards and) touring extensively at home and abroad – having wowed audiences in Bern, Brussels, Berlin, Vienna, at the Sydney Festival and the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. Perhaps the key to this show’s popularity is the joyous interaction between performers and punters; director Bailey specifies that Afro is a show where the audience dances, always performing in auditoriums where the dance floors are huge.

In response to a plea for help from the Haiti epidemic advisory system, a forum government officials and international organizations who are collectively tracking and responding to the epidemic, Direct Relief has mobilized its in-country team to pick, pack, and transport the essential medical supplies to the affected areas in order to treat patients. These items will include powdered Drip-Drop oral rehydration solutions, lactated ringers, IV needles and tubing, soap, bleach, and antibiotics.
Officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that cholera will continue to spike seasonally during the rainy season especially hundreds of thousands of people still remain in tent camps and only a small percentage of the population has access to a latrine following the January 2010 earthquake.
In the past year, Direct Relief International has provided enough antibiotics, oral rehydration solutions, and IV fluids to treat people for cholera.
Additionally, Direct Relief has sent cholera preparation packs to store in its in-country warehouse that will be dispatched as soon as an outbreak occurs in any part of the country. This will help to curb any future spikes in cholera during upcoming rainy seasons.

There are two types of trouble; the Mrs PB kind and the completely bonkers kind. The former tends to be loud and involve considerable kinetic energy. The latter, often accompanied by a 'Wibble Wobble', is a far more sinister, planned and its repercussions far more grave.
