Dimples

I took this photo when I first got Marigold Dimple over 2 years ago - she is in the process of being tarted up.

After a very cold winter, it was nice to visit one of our favorite sites for wildflowers in the North Carolina mountains that is near Saluda and Pearson Falls. These dimpled trout lilies (Erythronium umbilicatum) were just beginning to open up. Note the dark maroon anthers, a field characteristic that will often help distinguish this species from E. americanum that is much rarer in the southern Appalachians.
