Sometime ago, the Northwest Houston Photo Club had a competition to design a new sleeve patch. While working on my entry, my wife, Janet, objected to a silhouette I had drawn of a Leica like rangefinder camera. I was going for graphic simplicity that would convert to embroidery, not realism. She kept adding to her demands. First she just wanted to see chrome, then it was textured leather and finally a lens. I sketched in the various elements to please her and in the processes wondered how well a likeness of a camera could be created in Corel's Paint Shop Pro. I took her Leica M3 out of the storage closet and began a day long process of learning to create dials, chrome and various digitally drawn camera components. I only include this to confirm that my entire life does not revolve entirely around abstract images. You will also find this drawing incorporated into another image here, Digital Trompe L Oeil No. 5. Someday I will pull this out again and add the strap lugs which I originally forgot.

First sketching the image so that I am using my own lines and marks. I used Topaz Labs Simplify and ReStyle. I then added a frame using the Google Nik Collection Analog Efex Pro 2.

I'm determined to learn how to use the drawing apps on my new tablet. This months challenge seemed perfect for trying them out. I like the colours and drawing in this, but am rather unhappy about the lettering. Still, for a second try, I'm reasonably pleased :-)
Composite of drawings made with the amazingly cool web-based drawing app "Scribbler Too" made by Mario Klingermann which was based off of the original "Scribbler" by Ze Frank.
Artist-in-Residence Sarah Comfort appreciates this specific, familiar graphic quality of digital imagery. “If you look at my lines, you can see that they’re pixelated,” she says. “It’s normal for a digital image to try to fool the eye into thinking it’s something else, something real. But I’m not trying to hide that these were created on a computer.” Read more about Sarah on our blog: bit.ly/sarah-comfort
Image I drew representing a very important day to our country. For info on how to learn to do this, check out my short holiday blog at sydspix.wordpress.com/2022/05/29/the-bald-eagle-and-draw-...

This summer I visited the "Gemeentemuseum" in The Hague. There were a lot of exhibitions, also some good modern ones. But also some Rembrandts, like "The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp" from the Mauritshuis.
For this week's Illustration Friday topic: tall I had to think of Rembrandt. So I made my own version of him.
