The ultra-diffuse galaxy GAMA 526784 appears as a tenuous patch of light in this image from the Hubble Space Telescope. This wispy object resides in the constellation Hydra, roughly four billion light-years from Earth. Ultra-diffuse galaxies such as GAMA 526784 have a number of peculiarities. For example, their dark matter content can be either extremely low or extremely high. Ultra-diffuse galaxies have been observed with an almost complete lack of dark matter, and others consist of almost nothing but dark matter.
Another oddity of this class of galaxies is their anomalous abundance of bright globular clusters, something not observed in other types of galaxies.

I'm not sure exactly what happened here other than two buskers being asked to move on. From my vantage point, the police offer did a good job diffusing the situation.
This is purely my perception of the events.

I entered this at a Paris gallery exhibition under "Unknown Photographer". Light and shade section. The curator told me she had several requests to reproduce it in various media. Flattered !!!

Gracie is in the cardboard box on the bed in the front bedroom, and Millie is not happy about it. Taken by Edgar.
We have been having problems with Gracie and Millie because of aggressive behavior by both of them. We do not have photos of it, but Millie often stalks and chases Gracie or tries to keep her away from the water bowls. Despite what the photos show, Millie is more often the aggressor. We were off Flickr for a while because we wanted to find out if they were having any health problems. The vet says they are both physically healthy. For about a week, we have had a pheromone diffuser in their favorite room. The Pheromone diffuser is supposed to calm them.
halfway through the afternoon, hug blacks clouds(huge!) shielded the track from the sunlight for about ten minutes..the result was like a huge softbox in the sky..this is pascal wehrlein in the Mercedes..
Cucujus cinnaberinus (Coleoptera, Cucujidae).
Studio stack of a living pupa found under a poplar tree bark. 23 shots taken at 2.7x magnification, 1/4 sec., f/5.6, ISO 200, stacked in Zerene Stacker (mainly DMap, some PMax). 2 LED lights were diffused with a paper cylinder around the subject.
There was a surprise when I started to work with this insect. As usual, I first clean it under a stereo microscope. When I put it under the scope, shocked from the sight. Check out the footage below in the comment!
This is the view of the field close to our house. This was part of a 3 bracket to make into an HDR but it was hand held and the +2 image was too shaky. So I decided to work with -2 image and play around with it in Lr, where I knocked back the contrast and brought up the clarity and also flipped it to improve the composition. It was tempting to make it into a silhouette but then I thought a lot of that foreground wildness looked quite good and the silhouette would have resulted in a large crop..

Dust lanes seem to swirl around the core of Messier 96 in this colorful, detailed portrait of the center of a beautiful island universe. Of course M96 is a spiral galaxy, and counting the faint arms extending beyond the brighter central region, it spans 100 thousand light-years or so, making it about the size of our own Milky Way. M96, also known as NGC 3368, is known to be about 35 million light-years distant and a dominant member of the Leo I galaxy group. The featured image was taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. The reason for M96's asymmetry is unclear -- it could have arisen from gravitational interactions with other Leo I group galaxies, but the lack of an intra-group diffuse glow seems to indicate few recent interactions. Galaxies far in the background can be found by examining the edges of the picture. via NASA ift.tt/1NNvVhP
Cut from a plastic binder and made to fit in the camera's hot shoe, in this case on a D80.
Full instructions are on instructables.com.
Strobist blurb: OK, so it's still an on-camera flash but it is improving on what's provided. Besides, it could be used for Nikon's off-camera CLS.
Experimenting with window light and a flowering cactus. This one always reminds me of Callum even though it is grown from a leaf of Mike's plant. I remember Callum saying his one always flowered in June. Two years since he left us. Still thinking of you my dear old mate.
It is however a pity I forgot to remove the makeshift base of cardboard before photographing. A timely reminder to pay great attention to detail :)
Fun though seeing how much light could be cut out and still have the flowers pop. Hopefully this is just the beginning, once I have myself a black box I shall be taking many more.
Re the segue I thought the pinks matched nicely :) Next up railway tracks at the delightful Paekakariki station in golden hour. Woo hoo!

In a cheap room at the Mall Motel. The motel office is outside the window.
It's tricky to just shoot one active subject.
Tech Specs: Canon 70D (F14, 1/250, ISO 200) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (2x) + a diffused MT-24EX (flash head "A" set as the key on a Kaiser Adjustable Flash Shoe and "B" as the fill). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held.
I cut an Eggplant flower and used gaffers tape to secure it to a leaf so it would be in a good position and I'd have something to keep the background from being black. When they started feeding I wrapped my left hand around behind the leaf to keep it steady and then rested the lens on that same hand. Video of the "studio" youtu.be/ouS4h35UMS0
Had a nice foggy morning while in Edmonton last weekend so I got up early and looked for a shot like this. There were a few opportunities for it but this one had the light post under it that I liked. Not an easy shot to get.... took a TON of different exposures and settled on this one. A little bit of saturation and contrast boost on PS and here we are!
