A close comparison shot of a black-headed gull (rear) and a Mediterranean gull in winter plumage. The bill of the latter is heavier and it's hood remnants extend closer to the back of the head. However, the most obvious difference is the wings, with obvious black tips for the black-headed gull.

''After a while you learn the subtle difference
Between holding a hand and chaining a soul,
And you learn that love doesn’t mean leaning
And company doesn’t mean security.
And you begin to learn that kisses aren’t contracts
And presents aren’t promises,
And you begin to accept your defeats
With your head up and your eyes open
With the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child,
And you learn to build all your roads on today
Because tomorrow’s ground is too uncertain for plans
And futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight.
After a while you learn…
That even sunshine burns if you get too much.
So you plant your garden and decorate your own soul,
Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure…
That you really are strong
And you really do have worth…
And you learn and learn…
With every good-bye you learn.”

This shot was taken before the midnight of Jan 2010 while waiting for the New Year Countdown. i make some difference in taking this shot instead of either lanscape or portrait format by tilting at the angle.....
This was at the end of the Lower Burro Mesa hike and looking to the northeast and slightly upward. The 100' difference is listed on the national park site between the Lower Burro Mesa and the Upper Burro Mesa trails. While I could have used more of a landscape orientation and just walked back, here I decided to use a portrait orientation to capture the elevation differences between these two sections of this area. One could see the many different layers and events in the rocks. One of the things I did have to work on was metering this image properly with the highlights in the upper portion and the shadow areas in the lower portion. I found some spots that worked in the upper portions near the boundaries of lighted and shaded areas. I then worked with control points and color control points in Capture NX2 to bring out the final image.
What a difference getting a few shots in the sunshine makes.

In America, these are called "Queen Anne's Lace" and are often sold in flower shops. In Spain, where I grew up, we call them weeds. I never noticed how beautiful they were until I came to live in the United States.
Beauty is in the geography of the beholder?
There are only 3-colors, 10-digits, and 7-notes in my life now but not too long ago those numbers were each in trillions.
Funny how one person can make all that difference.
There was a time, there was always a time. A time when she was nothing more than a figure in the crosshairs of some scope, years had passed with this being the case. Something had changed, a point of no return... he wasn't just a thick headed marine anymore following orders, he was here by his own free will.

A Volvo PV544 in Langen. According to Wikipedia, "In 1958, the PV544 was phased in. Subtle differences with the PV444 included the introduction of a curved one-piece windshield to replace the two panes of flat glass, larger taillights, and a ribbon-type speedometer. "

Ok Woodsman! Your ego isn’t too humiliated?
I just want to put your ego knockout! :)))
Woodsman, do you realize how many sexual acts I see in spring and summer around my stream? :)))
Yesterday I asked to you these questions: do you see that your desires are the expression of your insatisfaction about your past, your insufficiensies? and do you think it’s the samething with the sexual desires?
You answered you were not sure!
Woodsman, you certainly know that your sexuality is the source of all the energy? Right?
Do you realize that in the life of all the people the sexual acts with their lover are the closer experience to the unity…. the closer experience to your return to the unity?
But also, do you realize too that your sexual attirance for the women is always caused by your separation of the unity?
Do you see better now that your total satisfaction is impossible as much as you’re separated of your lover… of the others…. of the light… of the nature?
Ok Woodsman, that’s all for today! Tomorrow my questions/story will be on the difference between you and me!
:)))… to be continued tomorrow…!

I am in the small town of Dubois, WY tonight. It is 80 miles from Yellowstone National Park, which is where we are heading in the morning.
This is what I see behind the motel we are in.
Last week there hundreds of Bald Eagles to be seen at Eagle Point Park, most across the river but some in the nearby trees and flying and feeding nearby. On Friday morning there was one and across the river it was mostly flooded and the Eagle population was way down. We had several days with heavy rain and this has raised the level of the river making it harder for the Bald Eagles and other birds to find found, so most have moved on elsewhere. Hopefully the water level will drop again soon and the Eagles will gather again.

The metre and broad gauge lines run side-by-side here and the steps take would-be passengers from the the MG platform to the BG platform amply showing the difference in scale, and hinting at the infrastructure work necessary under the gauge conversion programme.

This whole day was amazing! I wanted to do my take on "Cupid, Reimagined" in this shot. I wanted to show Cupid as someone who, instead of shooting lovers down, collects flowers and teaches people to be the right person to themselves first - not a prerequisite for "love" per se, but certainly for a deep and long-standing love.
Coastal Osprey with a rockfish. I've found a location on the Norcal coast that is just brimming with fishing Osprey right now. On my third trip out there, and after at least 12 hours of sitting on the cliff in a camp chair, I finally got something I'm pretty proud of. The challenges have included some intense wind, which seems to severely limit the fishing excursions, and the fact that the coast here faces more south than west, and the Osprey seem to only fly south to fish, then return to the north with their catch. This means that evening flights are mostly backlit, while morning flights are lit from behind and slightly this side of the bird. This is a morning flight. Some differences I've noticed between these and the Osprey in the mountains - these guys spend a LONG time circling while rendering the catch immobile before attempting to fly home with it, and the spinier fish are always carried upside down.
In the amount of traffic in two locations. This is the Norfolk Southern Crescent Line in Laurel, MS. It's the same line I fan in Greensboro, NC. Greensboro gets a LOT more traffic... but I liked Laurel and will go back again. : )

Wisteria frutescens from Sabine County, Texas.
Today I'm starting a long set of native Texas plants. First up is our spectacular native Wisteria. Much less aggressive and common than the invasive W. sinensis, the native W. frutescens can be distinguished from the former by subtle differences in flower morphology and fruit characteristics. This was an exciting find for me, as W. frutescens seems to be quite rare in Texas, and I can count on one hand the number of times I've come across it in the wild. This vine tends to grow in low, wet areas and along the margins of waterbodies. This particular plant was twining on buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentalis) in a scrub wetland in the floodplain of a large east Texas stream.
