Everyday activists looking to make a difference and protect the place we all call home gathered on March 2-4, 2017 in Denver, Colorado, for our 34th Climate Reality Leadership Corps Training. Led by former US Vice President Al Gore, nearly 1,000 attendees came together for the three-day event to learn how to communicate the science behind the climate crisis and take action to solve it.
More than 30 speakers joined us at the training, including experts in communications, grassroots organizing, and climate science. On the third day, Vice President Gore and three incredible Climate Reality Leaders held a panel to discuss the Leaders’ experiences as trainees and their place on the front lines of the fight for climate solutions in their communities. This open house featured tours around our boutique and inspirational talks by YES! and Dress for Success supporters Natalia Venida (Talent Manager at Aritzia), Michelle Reid (Sustainability Czar for Mills Office Productivity) and how working with non-profits have helped them grow personally and professionally. We also heard from a former Dress for Success Vancouver client, Serena Cripps, and the way the organization has impacted her life. Most importantly, it was a fantastic opportunity to find out how our donor's contributions make such a huge difference in our community! A charity fashion show with a difference staged at Barry's Amusements, Portrush
A fashion show with a bit more creativity and an exciting evening filled of clothes, and womens accessories from local designers, craftspeople, live entertainment and refreshments.
The event really showed off the diverse talents that we have in northern Ireland. I enjoyed a wonderful evening and had a lot of fun photographing the event, thanks for having ME.
THE DIFFERENCE
There is a difference in the way I feel, to what most people think,
if you should know the truth of it, for sure you would wonder why,
do I keep smiling through it all, for the pain I sometimes feel inside,
would surely take its tole on me, and cause my faith to sink.
I should feel anger for what has happened, to my frail soul,
and yet when I seek what I feel, by searching through my heart,
I am dignified with freedom, from what should surely be despair,
by a peace given to my spirit, by a love that makes me whole.
This spirit God has granted me, has quieted this troubled mind,
by offering me courage, to find happiness from many sources,
from people who live about me, and from those who are far away,
who wish to know this same feeling, that I was fortunate to find.
It is my faith that made this difference, in my life that I'd been dealt,
there really is no secret to it, all it took was for me to release,
the anger that was inside, hidden behind my tears of sadness,
that for years I'd often cried, not understanding why this way I felt.
As small as my faith was, eventually it did grow during those days,
as I traveled on this journey that is my life, and interacted with other souls,
seeking peace for their minds, from the troubles that they suffered,
similar to mine as I discovered, experienced by various painful ways.
As my faith grew I soon found, the hate dissipated from my soul,
my feelings altered from the state, that they had been crippled by for so long,
and left me feeling relief and sometimes joy, as friends I slowly made,
among the people that I came upon, and whose caring has now made me whole.
