Pride.be - Pride 2018 - Your Local Power
Feeling free and at home in your neighborhood, town or city. Be and show yourself in the streets. Holding hands with the person you love and smiling at each other in public. Our personal lives occur in the public space. Considering the approaching communal elections, everyone (youngsters, seniors, families, couples and all people - no matter what gender or orientation) asks the local politicians: How do you make a difference? What do you do to improve diversity in our everyday life? Where the rain makes way for the sun, we will walk proudly under the rainbow!
We will all be heading to the voting booths for the local elections on 14th of October. Deciding which circle to colour in is an important decision. A conscious decision can lead to a better living environment in your city or municipality.
And we're not just talking about the redesign of the local park, the policies in the municipal school, or the proper functioning of the local Public Centre for Social Welfare. Your local municipal or city administration can also make a real difference and turn the place where you live into a true rainbow bubble, if that's what you'd like, of course.
So it's no wonder that this year's Pride is focusing on the local elections. Belgian Pride is putting the municipalities and cities in the limelight in 2018, or better yet, at the end of the rainbow! We want the slogan 'Your Local Power!' to encourage municipal and city administrations to enact explicit, integrated local LGBTI+ policies.
Municipalities and cities can and must make the difference. They must accept responsibility for the well-being of all their residents. Flying the rainbow flag at the local government offices during the Pride period is a symbol of this. This is also a way that the municipality or city can show their solidarity with the LGBTI+ community. This symbolic gesture is not an infringement on neutrality. On the contrary, we can only actively work on ending all forms of discrimination once there is recognition for diversity and inclusion.
Policy-makers can make the lives of many citizens that much rosier by taking both small and large actions: by introducing a diversity charter in sports clubs, by making information on gender and sexuality available at the local libraries, by providing logistical and financial support to local associations, testimonials, and courses in the municipal education system, by holding a queer film festival in the local movie theatre or cultural centre, by holding LGBTI+ actions in community centres and youth centres, by providing information on what to do if you are the victim or witness of discrimination, by offering space for intimacy and (LGBTI+) sexuality in assisted-living centres, by training local police precincts and municipal officials, by including Equal Opportunity as an explicit competence within the city administration, etc.
The list of things that cities and municipalities can do is endless. Plus, many of these actions are very easy to implement. Sometimes, your local administration only needs a little boost, and you can give them that boost in the voting booth on 14th of October. A good local administration meets the needs and requirements of all residents. What does the LGBTI+ community in your city or municipality need?
You can already send the politicians a signal that is loud and clear on Saturday, the 19th of May. Make your wishes heard during the Belgian Pride.

From S.M.A.R.T. Train #29 heading Eastbound (Compass North) we see traffic at a standstill along US-101 in the North Novato/Burdell, CA., area. The US-101 has been a jam through here for at least two decades now, and the hopes of S.M.A.R.T. and other transit officials is to ease some of the congestion through here with the train. Meanwhile, S.M.A.R.T. is cruising along at 79 MPH.

The original document on which this one is based was a sabotage manual produced by the United States Central Intelligence Agency for distribution in Nicaragua in the 1980’s. It was hoped that if enough disenfranchised individuals undertook activities that subverted economic stability, the Leftist government would be more easily overthrown. The manual described itself as “a practical guide to... paralyzing the military-industrial complex... without having to use special tools and with minimal risk for the combatant.”
It continues, “Some might think that today’s armed struggle requires military supplies and economic resources only available to states or terorist bands... There is an essential economic infrastructure that any government needs to function, which can easily be disabled or even paralyzed without the use of armaments or costly and advanced equipment, with the small investment of resources and time.
The folowing pages present a series of useful sabotage techniques, the majority of which can be done with simple household tools such as scissors, empty botles, screwdrivers, matches, etc. These measures are extremely safe and without risk for those who use them, as they do not require equipment, skill or specialized activities that can draw attention to the doer.
One combatant can perform many of them, without having to turn to collaborators or having to make a detailed plan beforehand. These are acts that can be done practically in an improvised way every time an occasion presnts itself. Our sacred cause needs to have more men and women join
More than 100 Soldiers, Civilians, Retirees and Family Members joined Korean volunteers today for the second annual Humphreys Make a Difference Day at Deog Dong San Park in Pyeongtaek.
The volunteers spent the morning picking up trash, raking leaves and conducting beautification projects under the watchful eyes of the Pyeongtaek City Parks and Greenbelt Management Division.
Following the work the volunteers enjoyed lunch, a performance by the ShinHan Middle School traditional dance team and a post-work awards ceremony.

Hear from Federal DEIA leaders on how EEO and Civil Rights laws have been enhanced with DEIA principles promoted in the federal workplace through President Biden's issuance of Executive Orders (EOs) which have advanced equity, civil rights, racial justice and equal opportunity throughout all of the Federal Government. In June 2021, the President specifically issued EO 14035, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) in the Federal Workforce so that Agency workforces reflect the diversity of America through its employment policies and practices to ensure that public servants at all levels have an equal opportunity to succeed and lead. This builds on other Equity-related EOs such as EO 13985 Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities through the Federal Government. The Federal Government is working to be a model for DEIA, where all employees are treated with dignity and respect through its recruitment, hire, professional development, career advancement and retention of the Nation’s talent with initiatives to remove barriers to equal opportunity. Our New Year resolutions with a difference.
Jar one has 12 'do' notes - nice things like days trips, baking together, playing games and spending time at the park. Jar two has 12 'try' notes - things we need to try harder at like 5 portions of fruit and veg every day, eating at the dining table and being more active.
This was our January 'try' - it's not going to be easy, we have tubs and tubs of sweets left from Christmas.

Castle Ward Forum Community Clean Up...
Keep it Clean with Vi Green!
Vi Green is travelling down to Hastings from 'oop North to participate in the Castle Ward Forum Make A Difference Day on Saturday 25 October.
(Locals may notice a striking similarity between Vi and her long lost relative, artist, performer and professional show-off, Linda King.)
Vi is on a mission to clean up the streets of Hastings. She is particularly drawn to the town because her late husband, Harold, lost an eye in an unfortunate archery accident.
She will be on the streets with her trusty tea trolley and her faithful budgie Bobby Dazzler. Watch out for her handing out boiled sweets, bin bags and recycling advice as she travels.
Why not join Vi and help clean up the streets of Castle Ward?
Local residents will be meeting at 10am at Britannia Enterprise Centre, and will go out in small groups to tackle grot spots around the
ward. There will be a free lunch for the workers at 1pm at the Blacksmiths Cafe in the Britannia Centre, and a celebration party in the early evening.
This is a fun day to get to know other people who live in your neighbourhood, and to help freshen up any eye-sores that deserve a bit of TLC.
Bin Bags, litter pickers and gloves will be provided. Please bring along secateurs and dress for the task!
This event is part of the CSV Make A Difference Day -- the national day of volunteering.
