The month of March brought very different weather a year ago, as evidenced by the blooming magnolias in Queen's Park, Chesterfield.
Focusing this year on differences involving sexuality, A Rose by Any Other Name is the 2013 King Day performance by the Bates student group Sankofa, taking place at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, in Schaeffer Theatre, 305 College St.
Admission is free, but tickets are required because of limited seating. Please reserve your ticket online here or call 207-786-6400.
Alex Bolden ’15 of Cleveland, Ohio, has prepared Bates artists for the Sankofa performance on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. See a Bates Communications Office video by Phyllis Graber Jensen.
Founded in 2010, Sankofa explores African diasporic experiences through performing arts of dance, music, theater and spoken word. The group has become a symbol of African American pride and accomplishment at Bates.
“What the great civil rights organizer Ella Baker said about young people is especially applicable to Sankofa,” says Charles Nero, chair of the college’s King Day committee and a professor of rhetoric and American cultural studies. “They have the courage where we fail.”
“Sankofa’s founding principle is the exploration and validation of the differences among peoples of African descent. And if you think about that, this is everyone, since Africa is the birthplace of humankind.”

You can tell the difference between a hot and a not so hot Jalapeno by the aging that occurs.
Bottom is a young jalapeno, it's skin is smooth it's very dark green which gets darker the older it is and its shiny.
Above is the extreme, a very mature Jalapeno, the age lines, the red tint that appears after the darkest green has gone, these are all indicators that this will be one of the hottest Jalapenos you may eat.
I took this picture in the girls dorm parking lot. This picture shows how much difference there is just in the Hendrix community, one person is driving a old 1990's sedan while rite next to it you have a fairly new mustang.

From the beach in Naples, FL on Sunday back to KY to the snow on Wednesday! I prefer the white sands over the white snow!!
Nice to see the difference between a professional PR photo and a watch in real life. This one would be called a beater due to scratches etc.
Real life battle scars. This can be buffed out by polishing. Needs new glass too.

Raymond Weil Watch Freelancer 7730-STC-20101. With its matt black dial, refined style and contemporary colours, freelancers new date chronograph adopts a daringly minimalist feel, in perfect keeping with the collections original spirit. Space is shared ingeniously by the various functions - hours, minutes, seconds, chronograph and date - to give the RAYMOND WEIL freelancer date chronograph a sophisticated look. The new date chronograph has a circular-grained oscillating weight and mechanical selfwinding movement with 46-hour power-reserve and 28 800 vibrations per hour. The chronograph can be started or stopped by pressing a button at 2 oclock; a second pushbutton at 4 ensures an immediate return to zero. This contemporary model stands out with its original, geometric contrasts. The sharp-angled indexes offer a smooth, harmonious contrast to the circular subdials, with the minutes at 12 oclock, hours at 6, and small seconds at 9. The subdials are not all the same size: the smallseconds is slightly smaller than the other two, yet has plenty of character and a surprising design, with its ring and adjacent screw, underlining the steel chronographs authentic cachet. The curved date window at 3, flanked by a horizontal window for the days of the week, adds extra visual dynamism to the watchs architecture. The 42mm-diameter RAYMOND WEIL freelancer date chronograph can be worn with either a dark brown leather strap (marked V2.18) or a steel bracelet with double push-piece security.

I just noticed that this picture I took of an alpaca looks very similar to the charcoal sketch of a Llama I have hanging on the nearby wall. Freaky Kontiki!
All these Swiss Chard plants were from the same sowing, but the larger ones were planting out in the garden earlier, while the smaller ones remained in a pot. Swiss Chard are hardy plants, so the smaller ones will catch up, or we'll have a staggered harvest (which is good).
