What a difference a day makes! Yesterday it was overcast and raining - today it's a fine but 'Crisp Autumnal' start!

It's 10.00am on Sunday 9th October 2016 - the final day of the Great Central Railway's 2016 Autumn Gala. Now we see 'Resplendent' SR 1917 Urie Designed 5P 4-6-0 'King Arthur Class' 777 Sir Lamiel 'Glisten', in the mid morning sun, when passing Rothley Brook with the 10.15am service for Leicester North.

I normally photograph rougher beaches- by the ocean and often with lots of pebbles on them. But they are also found in silent fjords like this one from last weekend in Hardanger.

My album of beaches here.

Wherever courting couples find themselves these women with their roses are bound to follow. Turkish people are extremely polite to these persistent women. Eventually one goes and the next one pounces. I can't imagine British couples being half as patient.

A Chopper on Ice

Description: Damselflies resemble dragonflies, but are actually separate entities, even if related closely, also being Odonatas, and are no less rare, at least in some places of the planet. Most damselflies share the feeding habits of dragonflies, consisting of an insectivorous diet. Not only that, but they also possess an exceptional vision, being able to see in all directions except directly from behind. The main difference layman people should watch out for when discrimating a damselfly from a dragonfly lies in the wings. NORMALLY (notice the emphasis on this word), damselflies rest with wings closed, while dragonflies always rest with wings open. Some facial traits can also be seen as a difference to more experienced individuals.

Feeding habits: Predator.

What a difference a day makes. Yesterday the woods were loaded with warblers and today it looked like a dead sea out there. Almost all migrant warblers took off for the north country overnight. When I first saw this patient male poking around in that basswood tree, I thought it was a black-capped chickadee.

Emily : "We finally get all our clothes in one place and that was the best outfit you could come up with?"

Elizabeth: I'm watching Tulley, Booley's children and Squeaky's dog by myself. Being presentable for company was not the first thing on my mind this morning. Say hi to Kyle, Emily."

Emily: "Yes, I see you, dear....I also see that he's standing on your chair....with his feet."

Elizabeth [slowly and sternly]: "Again... watching all of them...by myself."

I posted a similar shot of this discharge tower at the Craigmaddie Reservoir about 8 months ago. Since then some alterations & maintenance has been done. The A frame removed & metalwork repainted. This was taken on Tuesday & there was (very unusually) a significant police presence. Given the subsequent news that a woman’s body had been found in Glasgow that morning & police were searching this area for a missing man. Today (Thursday) comes the news that they have found a man’s body in one of these reservoirs & the police suspect a murder/ suicide. Scary - I might have been there when this was happening. I saw nothing.

Are they really different?

How man are different? On, two or three?

What is the reason of the difference?

The thickness? The color? The material?

Are they really different? They all are ropes ....

The title here was suggested to me by the difference and the opposite nature of the freshness of the vegetation in my landlord's flower and rock garden, and the presence of the very old and very grey whitetail buck skull, a great distance away from life, which has been lying among the vegetation there for the five years that I have been renting part of this house, and probably a lot longer than that. The new and the old. The living and the deerly departed.

It might be hard to believe, but to date 46100 has traversed the Settle Carlisle four times, and three of those have been the day after 46115. A rather spooky statistic!

Taken just 24 hours and 3 minutes apart from the previous photo, 46100 'Royal Scot' heads north near Low House Crossing with The Fellsman.

A planned return visit, hoping the weather forecasters have got it right today, which I'm glad to say they did, giving superb light throughout are stay.

And the bird played it's part too, had to wait about 45 minutes for it show (resting in reeds) but when it did it came very close and was quite active in different parts of the bay it was feeding in has can be seen by the water colour differences.

John you should have waited it did come back and showed well in front on the reeds feeding, before retiring back to the reed bed.

This is one from a clutch of 4 eggs, two of which have already broken out, and the third is now just in the process of doing so.

You can see the tortoise's eye looking out of the small aperture of shell, which it will have made with its adapted beak..

The red-footed tortoise (Chelonoidis carbonaria) is a species of tortoises from northern South America. These medium-sized tortoises generally average 30 cm (12 in) as adults, but can reach over 40 cm (16 in). They have dark-colored, loaf-shaped carapaces (back shell) with a lighter patch in the middle of each scute (scales on the shell), and dark limbs with brightly colored scales that range from pale yellow to dark red. Recognized differences are seen between red-footed tortoises from different regions. They are closely related to the yellow-footed tortoise (C. denticulata) from the Amazon Basin. They are popularly kept as pets, and over-collection has caused them to be vulnerable to extinction.

Their natural habitat ranges from savannah to forest edges around the Amazon Basin. They are omnivorous with a diet based on a wide assortment of plants, mostly fruit when available, but also including grasses, flowers, fungi, carrion, and invertebrates. They do not brumate, but may aestivate in hot, dry weather.

Eggs, hatchlings, and young tortoises are food for many predators, but the main threats for adults are jaguars and humans. Population density ranges from locally common to very scarce due in part to habitat destruction and over-collection for food and the pet trade.

The difference between Male and Female Goldfinches is very subtle.

If you notice,

On the right the red face of the male goes further back behind the eye

Where on the left the females stops at the eye line.

The background makes a difference.

Taken with the Nikon Z 8 w/ Nikkor Z 600mm f/6.3 VR S w/ Z TC-1.4X teleconverter. As you can see it's a fabulous lens, and so light weight I miss it already. However I actually don't think it's that much better than my NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR w/ Z TC-1.4X teleconverter.

The weight factor is a big deal at just over 3 lbs. But even at only 3 lbs. it's still to heavy for an 81 year old fellow that has been beating the stuffings out of myself my whole life.

With, count em' 2 torn rotator cuffs. And if I have to go through that much pain to left my camera and lens, it's hardly anything compared to the pain I've been going through thinking about the pain and suffering I have to endure parting with nearly 5 grand, now that's real pain. If had unlimited funds, I'd keep it in a heart beat.

----------------------------- JESUS ✝️ SAVES-------------------------------

SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST - ALONE!

12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."

❤️❤️ IT'S ALL JESUS AND NONE OF OURSELVES! ❤️❤️

16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the SALVATION of everyone WHO BELIEVES: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM GOD IS REVEALED, a righteousness that is by FAITH FROM FIRST TO LAST, just as it is written: "THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH." (Romans 1:16-17)

16 KNOW that a man is NOT justified by observing the law, but by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be JUSTIFIED BY FAITH in CHRIST and NOT by observing the law, BECAUSE BY OBSERVING THE LAW NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED. (Galatians 2:16)

1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)

7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)

1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3 Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. 4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

5 Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law: "The man who does these things will live by them." 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'" (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 "or 'Who will descend into the deep?'" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:1-13)

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!

So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

Moai Piro Piro - The incredible moai that smells everything:

A striking, different and incredible moai. I am talking about the Moai Piro Piro, a quite striking figure that differs from all its brothers. If you want to know the secrets of this giant statue, I invite you to continue reading.

About the moai Piro Piro:

When I first arrived at the entrance of the Rano Raraku volcano I met a friend who is there welcoming all the visitors. It is the moai Piro Piro, a stone giant with unique characteristics and very different from the other statues I saw on Easter Island.

Characteristics of the moai Piro Piro:

The first and perhaps most striking thing about this colossus is its huge, pointed nose. It is so much so that the translation of his name means bad smell, but not because he smells bad, but rather because his figure seems to represent that he is smelling a very strong aroma.

Another of its main characteristics is related to its head. Only the top of this moai measures 4 meters and is considerably larger than the other sculptures on Rapa Nui.

Regarding his body, we also have several differences with the rest of the colossi on Easter Island. The Piro Piro moai has its shoulders projected forward, as if it had bad posture. This is quite striking and one of the mysteries that historians are still trying to unravel.

Finally we have on the right side of his neck, a kind of graffiti in which the word Baquedano is read. This drawing is not part of the original design, but it has remained there because it is part of history. It was carried out by Chilean sailors from the General Baquedano School at the beginning of the 20th century.

Piro Piro moai size:

Along with all the characteristics mentioned in the previous point, there is an even more incredible one: the size of the Piro Piro moai.

This statue measures almost 11 meters and is almost twice the size of any other of the moai buried in Rapa Nui. It is the largest moai on the island, although having the body buried, it cannot be seen in its maximum splendor.

* And the other giants:

In the 19th century, the explorer Thor Heyerdahl, surprised by the size of the head that this statue had, got permits to excavate and discover a little more about this giant. After several months of work, he verified that it was one of the largest in Rapa Nui.

Location of the moai Piro Piro:

Like most buried moai, the Piro Piro moai is also found on the slope of the Rano Raraku volcano and it will be almost impossible not to see it as it is right at the entrance.

The difference between a photograph and a great photograph is timing.

I guess it's the same with a kiss .....

I tried my new macro lens, which touts good portrait shots. Not bad, but can be sharper. This was handheld, so tripod may make the difference. It was overcast and tough to get correct skin tone. This is pretty close.

Early modern Age And Late modern Age

Well, tell me, who is more dangerous: a rattlesnake or a carnivorous plant? There are so many problems to solve... Nevertheless: Have fun!

I have gotten a new skin and it just blows me away the difference. Let me know what you all think.

In America, these are called "Queen Anne's Lace" and are often sold in flower shops. In Spain, where I grew up, we call them weeds. I never noticed how beautiful they were until I came to live in the United States.
