A break from my heart project. I had some ideas that just didn't pan out today but that's ok. I have been trying to keep 2 projects going and today I am happy that at least one made it. I have my own rules that I have to post daily and getting it just before midnight. Better luck tomorrow.
Another from long ago early in my Alaska years and the caption I wrote way back then when originally posted RP.net:
The northbound Alaska Railroad DEX (Denali Express) has departed the depot in Anchorage after making a quick crew swap. This dedicated train is run every Saturday and Monday in the summer serving Princess Cruise lines passengers arriving in Whittier. The cars which normally ride on the rear of the regular Denali Star Passenger train are set out two nights a week and run a special train non stop from Whittier to Denali. This wood pile trestle at MP 114.3 crossing the salmon laden Ship Creek is right in downtown Anchorage only a hundred yards or so from the ARR's yard office. This shot was taken from the overpass on the then fairly new Ship Creek Trail a truly awesome little urban bike path and one of my favorite places in the city.

It's twenty minutes shy of 11 PM as train 231S curls north along Turnagain Arm passing the mile board at 99, just 15 miles from the depot in downtown Anchorage.
This is the DEX deadheading home to Anchorage with a solo SD70MAC leading one ARRC Goldstar bilevel and a string of Holland America Princess owned cruise line cars. The DEX (Denali Express) is an every Saturday and every other Wednesday pair of dedicated trains operated under contract for the giant cruise line. One train deadheads south early from Anchorage to Whittier to meet an arrivinf vessel and then operates non stop from there to Denali Park and deadheads on to Fairbanks. It's southbound counterpart (this train) deadheads from Fairbanks to the park, picks up guests and then highballs straight to the waiting vessel in Whittier that will sail south that evening. After the train is empty it deadheads north back to Anchorage behind the Coastal Classic in this late evening light.
On this day the sun rose at 4:22 AM and won't set until 11:39 PM....and this my dear readers is why they call Alaska the Land of the Midnight Sun!

Alaska Railroad train 231S, the DEX (shorthand for Denali Express) has three Holland America Princess cruise cars trailing a lone SD70MAC as they make their way non stop from Denali Park station destined to a waiting Princess Cruise lines vessel waiting in Whittier. This train leaves Fairbanks in the wee hours and deadheads to the Park where it picks up its passengers for a morning departure running several hours in advance of the flagship Denali Star for its 412 mile run to tidewater .
They have just crossed the long Knik River bridge and swung around the bluff as they head south amidst some autumn splendor in this view from the Old Glenn Hwy overpass at ARR milepost 145.6. Shrouded in clouds miles distant on the far side of the wide Matanuska Valley past Palmer is the 6093 ft summit of Matanuska Peak in the Chugach Mountains.

This is Dex's Diner from Star Wars Episode II.
Built for the Imperium Der Steine MOC Olympics.
Theme for this round was to build a minor scene from Star Wars, something in between all the big scenes.

Dexter giving me a perfect pose. He is such a great cat... one of those dog/cats. By that I mean he comes when called, chases paper balls and brings them back. He's also very loving and affectionate. Great all around cat.=)
