The golden-ringed dragonfly (Cordulegaster boltonii) is one of the largest insects in Sweden. I spotted this particular specimen together with my son on a trip to the Mjällådalen nature reserve near Härnösand, Sweden, and luckily for us it had caught a bumblebee and landed pretty much right in front of us on a leaf to eat it.
I initially took some gradually closer photos of it using the Canon 100 mm L IS Macro lens (like here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/53923749905/) and to my surprise, it didn't fly away and just continued devouring the poor bumblebee (so much was already devoured that I am unable to tell the exact species).
When I considered myself "done" and having gotten the photos I wanted, Daniel however convinced me to switch to the Canon MP-E65mm lens and try for some real closeups. Since it would require me to be minimum 10.1 cm / 4" away from the dragon, I initially refused as I considered it impossible, but Daniel insisted and it turned out he was correct - it kept eating and I got some real closeups like this one at 2:1 magnification. It is also a two-exposure focus stack to bring ore of it into focus.
This species is the only one in Sweden belonging to the family Cordulegastridae and has a bit of a different face compared to the other species. Also, while the adult only flies for one summer, it has already spent four or five years as a larvae in the water before emerging.

The Devourer was first spotted in the outer borders of M.A.N.T.I.S. territories, near planet Guinevere, sector A06. Not much is know about this vessel, but it seems to be some sort of symbiotic relation between the ship itself and a sort of tentacular creature. It attach to ships' hulls with the tentacles and fire energy weapons that cut deep inside its victims, through armourings and shields, vaporizing anything in its path. The creature then sucks and nourishes from the hot gaseous matter.

These bunnies are now three weeks old. I was hoping they would sit & stare at the carrot in hope they didn't relise what it was. I was wrong....no sooner had i placed the carrot in front of them the 'Munch Bunch' devoured it leaving hardly any time to frame up & take the picture.
Its amazing how these bunnies are developing at such a fast pace.

I watched this praying mantis stalk a stink bug for about 30 minutes, and took easily as many photos, but this one is my favorite.

It all happend so quick, i needed sleep, i thought it was safe, but i was wrong. I woke up, and it was on top of me, it had already tore into me. I tried to grab my gun, but i could not reach it. My shrieks were like the dinner bell of every walker within miles. I new this was the end.
I am back. Hope you guys enjoy this little scene!
The lack of toolsets that are working with current build of this game makes screenshooting not much fun.

In my city, one of the richest cities in the wealthiest country in human history, 39,000 homeless people sleep in shelters every single night. They represent only a sliver of the number of people who live here without work, without homes, without an education, without healthcare of any kind.
As the American military budget approaches $500 BILLION dollars a year, the USA can boast of declining literacy, declining health, declining social services, one of the worst infant mortality rates in the entire Western Hemisphere, more imprisoned citizens than any other country on earth, and a national debt that numbers in the trillions of dollars.
Those who actually have work see their wages taxed to prop up some of the most violently repressive military regimes on earth - Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Israel. Our past best friends included Saddam's Iraq, the Shah's Iran, Apartheid South Africa, the Philippines under Marcos, Somoza in Nicaragua, etc etc etc. Virtually every gencodaire and dictator of the last 50 years has been in our payroll. For example, until 1998, every single high level Taliban official was in the payroll of the US. Across the earth our national wealth is being doled out around the world to armed fanatics of every stripe, even as we steal the natural wealth of the earth to feed our own greedy apetites for Chia Pets and Eyeliner. The amount of money Americans spend of pornography and dog food each year could feed every starving person on the planet - not that we care. Meanwhile, our economic, cultural and military force is turned towards stamping out democracy wherever it emerges, crushing human rights wherever they are demanded.
While 50,000 people a day die of hunger, lack of clean water, and the largest epidemic in history, the wealthiest country in the world offers the poorest countries in the world little more than prisons, bibles, military bases, threats, weapons, and "structural assistance" that benefits only the wealthiest .001%. In the end, the price of our assistance is always the same: political obedience, economic enslavement, and debt repayment schedules which consume the gross national product of entire continents....

The guy in this photo is a local character who has lived in my neighborhood for decades. People call him "Screaming Jesus", a vaguely affectionate kind of mockery which conveniently disregards his entire life. I was delighted to see him carrying the flag on the 4th of July. He had some words for me about the state of this country.
Our lack of interest is a mirror he is holding up to those who run this country like a private slush fund. He is an early warning system which we ignore at our own terrible peril.
