Oh sweet mist i feel your fingers

On my skin, where they linger

I feel your sensual , soft caress

My defences ,you urgently undress

In the field, where i stand

Stroke me slowly with your hand

Take me between your greedy lips

Over my hardness, your tongue it slips

Until you swallow me, swallow me whole

Devour my heart, devour my soul

Bite me, scratch me, as you fall

Drain my sap , drain it all

In natures bed , where i am kissed

By the beauty of sweet mist

I don't know what kind of pest is devouring these leaves, but they look to be made of tattered lace.

A Matter Of How You See It

It took this white faced heron quite a while to manoeuvre its catch into position, before devouring it whole. It did, however, wait for sometime before flying off.

Devouring Time, blunt thou the lion's paws, And make the earth devour her own sweet brood; Pluck the keen teeth from the fierce tiger's jaws, And burn the long-liv'd Phoenix in her blood;

Make glad and sorry seasons as thou fleets, And do whate'er thou wilt, swift-footed Time, To the wide world and all her fading sweets.......Shakespeare

Devouring the Sun

November 2022

I was lucky to have some color in the sky the evening I was in Bingen if only momentarily it made for a less than boring capture of the famous Mouse Tower.

In my previous post I mentioned the Bishop of Mainz extracted his tolls from the river tradesman with his three toll burgs, the mouse tower being on the river was the principal place of toll collection.

There is a story that goes the Bishop was also in charge of food distribution in the region and during a particular bad harvest season refused to let the backup stores be distributed and tricked the townspeople into a building that he barred the entrance to and set it ablaze.

Apparently laughing to himself about the townspeople tortured screams sounding like rats, he visited his own curse upon himself as that night a swarm of rats chased him down through town and cornered him in the mouse tower where he was devoured by the horde.

Disclaimer: Not trying to be realistic in my editing there is enough realism in the world, my style is a mix of painterly and romanticism as well as a work in progress.

This bramble got munched, it tasted lovely thanks,

"May the rats eat your eyes! I am now LOST to your cause! The darkness comes! It will damn us all!"

I'm not exactly sure what is happening here but I'm guessing that the spider (which is laying upside down and covered in what looks like webs) was killed by something else and the ants just took advantage of a free meal. Photographed in Maryland today.

"Roughly translated, the word ‘Wendigo’ means ‘the evil spirit that devours mankind’. Another translation, said to be made by a German explorer around 1860, equates the word ‘Wendigo’ with ‘cannibal’. Wendigoag are said to have an insatiable hunger for human flesh - no matter how much flesh they eat, they remain hungry.

This hunger is reflected in their appearance, which, according to some, is extremely thin. Despite their gaunt physiques, Wendigoag are described by some as giants, measuring at about 4.5 m (14.8 feet) in height. Whilst there are slight variations as to the physical description of this creature amongst the different Algonquian peoples, it is generally agreed that Wendigoag have glowing eyes, long yellowed fangs and long tongues. Most Wendigoag are also said to have sallow and yellowish skin, though others say that they are matted with hair or have decaying skin."
