KANAL - Centre Pompidou!
13 months of exhibitions and shows before conversion work begins
Before it becomes the largest cultural institution in Brussels, with 35,000 m2 devoted to artistic creation in all its forms, KANAL - Centre Pompidou proposes a unique cultural immersion in the buildings of the former Citroen garage.
Before conversion work begins, KANAL - Centre Pompidou will open its doors from May 2018 until June 2019 to allow the public to discover an exceptional cultural heritage, rich in history and preserved in its current state. Benefiting from the richness of the collections of the Centre Pompidou, the former Citroen garage will turn into a site hosting several exhibitions mixing visual arts, design, architecture, major installations and creations by Brussels-based artists, as well as a programme of performing-arts shows co-produced for this occasion with many of the city's cultural actors.
A future cultural hub
The ambition of KANAL - Centre Pompidou is to offer a centre of culture and exchange open to all, to put the creative scene of Brussels in the limelight, and to contribute to the capital's cultural appeal.
Driven by the Brussels-Capital Region, this ambitious project seeks to provide Brussels with a cultural hub favourable to the aura of the capital of Europe. In the context of a ten-year partnership with the Centre Pompidou, the future KANAL - Centre Pompidou will not only house a museum of modern and contemporary art, but also the rich collections of architecture and urbanism of the CIVA Foundation. It will also accommodate many public spaces with a range of functions, including several stages for the performing arts.
A wide-ranging programme
Events imagined in response to the identity of the site and its unique aesthetic qualities, but also its history
From 5 May 2018 until 10 June 2019, following a radically experimental approach, the former Citroen garage will turn into a platform open to a reflection on the stakes of the museum of the future. Curated by Bernard Blistene, the director of the Musee national d'art moderne, Centre Pompidou, a multidisciplinary programme will seek to fill the spaces that were recently emptied of their functions and left in their current state. Many of the proposals seek to echo the identity of the site, but also its human and social history, tangible across the different workshops and offices and in the different fittings of this vast complex.
Eager to integrate Kanal - Centre Pompidou in its context, the programme will let a vast audience have access, in one and the same venue, to a wide-ranging and unique cultural offer. The programme follows the rhythm of the Brussels cultural calendar, in partnership with, among others, Kunstenfestivaldesarts, BOZAR, Performatik Festival, Flagey, Kaaitheater and La Raffinerie (Charleroi Danse).

From spring to autumn 1891, Monet devoted himself to the treatment of a new subject, the only one he painted throughout this period: poplar trees. He produced a group of about 20 canvases depicting the trees planted on the edge of a marsh situated on the left bank of the Epte, two kilometres upstream from Giverny. The site had been put up for sale during the summer, and the plan was to cut down these trees. After the mayor had refused to grant a reprieve, Monet found himself forced to pay a sum of money to the timber merchant to stop the trees being felled before he had finished the series. Having set up in a boat, he made the most of the perspective effect offered by the line of poplars, which followed the winding course of the river upstream, forming a kind of large ‘S’. He was then able to form decorative compositions that were built around curved lines and counterbalanced by the verticals of the trunks. Monet painted several sub-series, reproducing the trees face-on and reflected in the river, but sometimes he reduced the motif to the simple vertical line of the trunks. With this new series, the painter repeated the approach he had undertaken the previous year with the Meules. The titles echo those he had chosen for that first series. The aim was identical in both cases: to depict the variations in light and seasons. The ‘instantaneity’ of these paintings is meant to convey the impression one feels when encountering the subject at a precise moment. The poplars series was the first to be exhibited without any other painting, as a complete entity in itself, when it was shown in the Durand-Ruel gallery in 1892.

Tugging the devoted on a wet and miserable day was this unexpectedly dirty class member. Still it was superb to see one working up close although the load on the BKR is never taxing.
So many devotees had turned up that the train had to be strengthened to load 8 and, like a turkey that has just survived Christmas, here we see an additional coach being plucked from the yard to be placed at the front of the rake.

A devoted man, Leonard Knight has been working on this monument to God for the past 23 years. Quite possibly the friendliest man you'll ever meet. He lives in his painted trucks, has no electricity, built everything here from scratch and uses paint donated by his visitors. Located in Niland, CA approximately 40 miles North of El Centro.
Tarantino grew up as a devoted film fan and worked at Video Archives, a video rental store, while training to act. His career began in the late 1980s, when he wrote and directed My Best Friend's Birthday, the screenplay of which formed the basis for True Romance. In the early 1990s, he began his career as an independent filmmaker with the release of Reservoir Dogs in 1992; regarded as a classic and cult hit, it was called the "Greatest Independent Film of All Time" by Empire. Its popularity was boosted by his second film, Pulp Fiction (1994), a black-comedy crime film that was a major success both among critics and audiences. Judged the greatest film from 1983–2008 by Entertainment Weekly, many critics and scholars have named it one of the most significant works of modern cinema. For his next effort, Tarantino paid homage to the blaxploitation films of the 1970s with Jackie Brown (1997), an adaptation of the novel Rum Punch.
Kill Bill, a highly stylized "revenge flick" in the cinematic traditions of Japanese martial arts, spaghetti Westerns and Italian horror, followed six years later, and was released as two films: Volume 1 in 2003 and Volume 2 in 2004. Tarantino directed Death Proof (2007) as part of a double feature with friend Robert Rodriguez, under the collective title Grindhouse. His long-postponed Inglourious Basterds, which tells the fictional alternate history story of two plots to assassinate Nazi Germany's political leadership, was released in 2009 to positive reviews. After that came 2012's critically acclaimed Django Unchained, a Western film set in the antebellum era of the Deep South. It became the highest-grossing film of his career so far, making over $425 million at the box office. His eighth film, the mystery Western The Hateful Eight, was released in its roadshow version December 25, 2015, in 70 mm film format, complete with opening "overture" and halfway-point intermission, after the fashion of big-budget films of the 1960s and early 1970s.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is devoted to helping preserve our oceans. On the
second floor of the aquarium, there is an exhibit whose sole purpose is to
show people the amount of debris that pollutes our oceans. This picture
depicts probably the most famous ukiyo-e painting of all time, The Great
Wave of Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai. While it may simply look like a
painting from this distance, it is actually made up of thousands of plastic
particles that were once floating in the Pacific Ocean. I really liked
looking at this exhibit and it made me think about how art can make a
statement about society and its surroundings.
A group of deeply devoted followers of the Unity of the Brethren faith were among the Czech immigrant families who settled in this area off eastern Bell County in the late 1870s and established the farming community of Ocker. The group initially worshiped informally in their homes. Annual visits from 1884 to 1891 by the Rev. Henry Juren and the Rev. Bohuslav Emil Lacjak encouraged them to organize. The Evangelical congregation of the Bohemian and Moravian Brethren of Ocker was established in 1892, the dedication of their first church building. Erected in 1893, was conducted by the Rev. Juren and the Rev. Adolph Chlumsky, noted early-day Czech community preachers. The church cemetery was established later that year.
Membership in the church grew from 52 families in 1900 to 92 families in 1925. A new church /Sunday school building was erected at this site in 1931 to meet the spiritual needs of a growing congregation. By mid-1940. English had replaced Czech as the language used in Sunday school and worship services.
The congregation was served by part-time pastors until 1981 when a full-time pastor was called. The church continues to serve the local community with spiritual guidance and outreach programs. (1994) (Marker No. 3664)

Beginning on 8 March, 2024, the auspicious day devoted to Lord Shiva, Maha-Shivaratri, was celebrated at the Shree Peetha Nilaya ashram with Paramahamsa Sri Vishwananda and over 1200+ participants. (Despite the challenge of sudden airline cancellations and rail strikes, they persevered and made it in time!)
A full day and night of activities began with the customary outside abhishekam to Hari Bhakta Poorna Shiva in the morning, and a lecture followed in the afternoon. In the evening, the main worship ceremonies consisted of four main abhishekams, which, Guruji explained in His satsang, represented the different aspects of Shiva associated with Vrindavan. Everyone was eligible to offer water for each of these four abhishekams, spaced throughout the night into the morning of the next day, and an energetic seva team organised and gave prasad to everyone after each abhishekam. The entire event was filled with vibrant kirtan to Shiva as well as to Krishna, the One on whom Lord Shiva meditates, and, despite staying up all night, the musicians, singers, and entire crowd kept the temple rocking. The final arati concluded the event after 6 am, after which vibhuti (holy ash) was distributed to everyone.
