Devoted to the most beautiful girl, Natalie. Hello there =]

I call this photo anticipation... this was from a maternity set i did on Nikki Beach... I love how these photo's came out... each photo tells its own story.

Taken while walking around a Chinese New Year festival in Wellington. This man stood next to me watching a dance show on a stage in front of us. I found the tattoo interesting (and assumed it to be the name of the woman to his side), and loved how I could tell he wore a smile just from his facial contortions.

As you can see, some of my pictures are not as sharp as they shoud have been. I simply didn't have a shutter release cable.

Plus, in some of the pictures, the crowd seems to have disappeared. The reason is that I chose a too long shutter speed. So in order to avoid that, I suggest you to use a shutter speed around 4sec (2 minimum-10sec max) to capture the crowd. Of course it depends on many parameters (density of the crowd, speed at which they are moving, light condition, etc). Long Exposure Photography requires a lot of practice to master it.

The more you shoot, the more you learn, better the results are.

So keep shooting :)

And yeah, if you want to shoot in the Subway of Paris (or whatever subway on France), better ask an authorization if you don't want to be expelled, or avoid to stay in a same spot too long. Of course and it makes sens, avoid to impede the circulation especially if you are in a tight space and if you are using a big tripod.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The aim of this series is to share with you my early experience on film photography and see how I will progress through the episodes and give you some tips/Advices.

Naturally, Colonel Parker devoted his promotional talents to this concert. The Colonel hired someone to drive mule train wagon with this slogan, around the fairgrounds. The above photo shows the same wagon, and another sign, at East Tupelo and Highway 78 (East Main Street today). In another interview later in the year, the Colonel said, "we donated 11,000 dollars" (my approximate quote) towards building the Youth Center. That amount was not enough to build the park immediately. The park opened in either 1964 or 1965. Elvis continued to donate, over the years, an unknown amount of money.

The elaborate and exquisite ancient Santi Cosma e Damiano, a minor basilica devoted to Cosmas and Damian, two brothers who were reportedly doctors, martyrs and saints. The history of this church is one of the most fascinating in Rome. It is located in a very prominent location, opposite the Roman Forum in the historic rione Monte. It is actually comprised of two ancient Roman structures, one originating in the forum. For an extended period they formed a single church until the late 19th century when they were again separated. The primary structure is now accessed from an area of what once comprised the Temple of Peace, located on the southeast part of the Imperial Fora, now along the Via dei Fori Imperiali. It was where the famous marble plan, the Forma Urbis Romae, was once displayed. The entrance to the church at one point was located via the circular temple identified as the Temple of Romulus, whose actual identity and purpose is disputed. During the medieval era, however, the Roman forum became a neighborhood resembling the densely packed Subura of ancient Rome, which, along with flooding and possible landslides led to a gradual filling in of the area, resulting in the ground level rising so much that it required another entrance. The medieval neighborhood was cleared from the area in the 16th century but until that time the main door and entrance remained below ground level. Several other important churches also occupied former Roman structures in the Middle Ages, including Mamertine Prison, which became San Giuseppe dei Alegnami, and Sant'Adriano, the former Senate House. The most famous of these is probably the Colosseum itself: it was eventually christened Santa Maria della Pieta al Colosseo.

This church was founded in 527 when Theodoric the Great, the king of the Ostrogoths (acting as agent of the Emperor Justinian I who was residing at that point in Constantinople) and his daughter Amalasuntha donated two buildings to the church during the reign of Pope Felix IV. It was reportedly the first Christian church in that particular area, as much of the elite of Rome was still hostile to Christianity. It was not a titular church, but it was intended to be part of the church's charitable activities because of the association with the identical twin brother doctors. The pope united the two buildings and donated the complex to the brothers Cosmas and Damian, but also possibly to serve as a contrast to the ancient cult of Castor and Pollux, worshipped on the other side of the forum. The association with the two doctors was also something of a juxtaposition (and incorporation) of the tradition of the Asclepeion, as it was believed in the Middle Ages that an infirm person who slept overnight in the church could experience a vision which would lead to a cure.

The artwork is simply stunning. The decoration spans many periods, but the apse of the new church featured a mosaic representing the parousia of Christ. The church was further embellished by Pope Sergius I in the late 7th century and Pope Adrian I in the 8th century. Some have observed that the apse appears somewhat odd and even disproportional, as it is quite large for the still-ample room, but there was actually a height reduction of the structure in the restorations of the 17th century. On the bright side: one should actually be standing more than 20 feet below it, so it now provides a much closer view of the exquisite mosaic than actually intended. It features Christ at the parousia, or Second Coming at the End Time, set against an orange sky at dawn adorned in golden robes. He is holding a rolled scroll of the Torah. The Saints making an appearance are Peter and Paul, who are shown introducing Cosmas and Damian, depicted with martyrs' crowns. Pope Felix, to the far left, holds a model of the church. This figure was restored in the 17th century, and was thus altered under Pope Gregory XIII, but it was later restored. The other figure featured is another martyr, St. Theodore. The figures all stand in front of the Jordan river flanked by date palms, the left one also depicting a phoenix, the symbol of resurrection. The sheep represent the Lamb of God, accompanied by twelve others representing the Apostles. The Lamb appears standing on a hill overlooking Jerusalem on the left and Bethlehem on the right, from which flow the Twelve Rivers of Paradise.

In terms of its other features, the choir stalls are set against the curved wall. The frescoes on the walls and ceiling date to the 17th century, and are mostly anonymous works. The ceiling is made of carved and gilded wood, and it is also adorned with the crest of the Barberini family (Pope Urban VIII) which features bees. The high altar is Baroque, created by Domenico Castelli in 1637. It features a 12th-century icon of Our Lady as the altarpiece. The ceiling fresco was executed by Marco Montagna, and there is a paschal candlestick consisting of a twisted marble column to the right of the altar. There are also seven side chapels. This church is one of the most magnificent in Rome, and as it is located to the most popular area in the heart of the city it is also highly accessible and well worth a visit.

Handed down form generation to generation the religious art of Santeros is a vibrant and important as it was centuries ago. Before the first English colonists set sail for Jamestowne on 1607, Spanish settlers arrived in northern New Mexico bringing their heritage and culture to this new world -- traditions that still exist today. I have been to Jerusalem in May 2009 for the purpose of a scientific historical research that was devoted to international politics in the Middle East. After spending a month in Jerusalem, visiting archives and a library, historical places and strolling along the streets, I got acquainted with the unique atmosphere of this ancient city. Jerusalem is a city of three world religions, a city where everything seems familiar and native, it is very cozy and benevolent. For those who are familiar with biblical stories, the city seems to be an animated historical book, the city of kings and prophets, a city that has gone through history and conquered time itself. Jerusalem is situated on the hills, in the beginning of May the weather turned out to be quite cool, a strong spring wind blew from the desert, but then the hot Middle Eastern weather was established. The heat in Jerusalem is not like one in the plains or on the coast of the country, here it gets dark very early, which is unusual for the summer months in Russia. I lived in a small hotel in the center of the city and got the opportunity to go for a walk on the historical center and the Old City. The streets of the city are full of visitors and tourists from all over the world, many languages are heard here. Quiet and benevolent atmosphere. This city has a special soul. This is exactly the impression that Jerusalem made on me.

Living in Jerusalem, I visited other places in Israel: Galilee and the Mediterranean coast.

35th annual Rosary Sunday draws thousands devoted to Mary, holy rosary

Story by Gina Keating

In a kaleidoscope of colors, sound and movement, more than 6,000 faithful in the Phoenix Diocese gathered to honor Mary in the most anticipated Catholic event of the year, Rosary Sunday.

Under her title Mary, Help of Christians, the 35th annual celebration continued its traditional offerings of confession, adoration, benediction and recitation of the rosary.

The downtown Phoenix Convention Center opened its doors Oct. 10 to ethnically diverse members of the Body of Christ whose public prayers in different tongues paid homage to Mary, especially for her protection of the unborn.

Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted was greeted with a standing ovation from an enthusiastic crowd that filled the seats, as others searched for open spots.

“Today, we see how Mary is the mother of all of us,” Bishop Olmsted said in his bilingual address.

Auxilary Bishop Eduardo Nevares, recently back from a trip to Rome, delivered an apostolic blessing from Pope Benedict, which was received with a round of applause.

Christy O’Gara said she attended the event for the second year with her six children so they could “see all those that love Jesus.”

“Now, more than ever, we desire to be together as witnesses to the world,” O’Gara said.

This temple was devoted to the god of the sea Poseidon, brother of Zeus. Who in a marine country as Greece had a very important place in the Pantheon.

There is a legend involving the hero Theseus about this place.

Before Theseas (or Theseus) leave for his quest in Crete against the mythical beast Minotaur, his father Aegeas (or Aegeus) orderer him and his crew to have black sails, if his son was dead, or white sails, if his son was alive, on their return.

As Theseas was on his return from Crete to Athens, he and his crew forgot to change the sails from black to white!

So Aegeas fell of the cliff of Cape Sounio, from his sorrow for the loss of his son.

So the sea between Greece and Asia minor took it's name from that man and named, still today, Aegean sea. :)

This is my custom Kathie Olivas Hazel entitled "Til the End of the World", which was my contribution to the Zerostigmata Benefit Collective in Naples, Italy, devoted to raising awareness of Sandoff Syndrome. This piece is dedicated to Mattia Fagnoni.

I envisioned this piece to be a haven where Mattia is not suffering and can play to his heart's content. His father built him the ultimate tree house out of an old tree, protected by a cute wood dryad, where he can drink juice, eat sandwiches and read comic books. Mattia also has a secret treasure chest that holds everything that is dear to him inside of it. If you look hard enough, you may find it. Mattia also loves SCC Napoli, his favorite soccer team. His two best friends are Hubert and Cofield, his stuffed bears. Cofield has been naughty so he is strapped to Mattia's trusty boat. Hubert is guarding the sandwiches and snacks. Always on the lookout, Mattia is keeping watch, making sure that the sneaky Wood Octopus doesn't steal his treasure. Hopefully in this piece, Mattia will always play on, til the end of the world.

On December 19, 2024, I paid a visit to the two museums hosted in Gadagne, an imposing Renaissance ensemble in Lyon St-Jean, France. The first museum in devoted to the Puppetry and the second is the Lyon's History Museum (www.gadagne-lyon.fr/en).

I loaded my Nikon F4 (year 1989, see the details about the camera bellow) with a Rollei RPX 400 which is the former formula of the Agfa APX 400. The film cartridge is DX-coded and I did not modified the nominal DX-coded 400 ISO sensitivity.

I choose the AF Nikkor lens 1:1.8 f=85mm with a protective Hoya HMC UV 62mm screw-on filter plus its dedicated Nikon HN-23 metal shade hood. I brought along too the Nikon SB-26 flashlight in my bag in case of necessity.

After at view 30, the last seven views were completed the day after with a series a views of my Hasselblad 500 C/M camera at home. The film was then rewound (manually) and processed the film developed using 350 mL of Adox Adonal (Agfa Rodinal) developer prepared at the dilution 1+25 for 12min30 at 20°C.

Digitizing was made using a Sony A7 camera (ILCE-7, 24MP) held on a Minolta Auto Bellows with the Minolta slide duplication accessory and Minolta Macro Bellow lens 1:3.5 f=50mm. The light source was a LED panel CineStill Cine-lite.

The RAW files obtained were inverted within the latest version available of Adobe Lightroom Classic (version 14.1.1) and edited to the final jpeg pictures without intermediate file. They are presented either as printer files with frame or the full size JPEG's together with some documentary smartphone color pictures.

About the camera :

Maybe it would have been better not to ask for this question: « what’s new do you have at the moment?» to my local photo store, because Christine grab underneath the counter, stating « I have that … » . What a beast ! A Nikon F4 in the exact state of the Nikon brochure year 1990, presented with the standard AF Nikkor 1:1.4 f=50mm. I was already hooked by the machine. After two days, I decided to buy it even with some little common issues found on early Nikon F4 (see below), fortunately not affecting the whole, numberous functions of this incredibly complex professional SLR of the year 1990’s.

Nikon F4 came to the market on September 1988 starting with the serial number 2.000.000. Fully manufactured in Japan (modules came from 3 different Nikon factories) the F4's were assembled in Mito, Ibaraki (North to Tokyo) Nikon plant (no more in the mother factory of Tokyo Oi like the Nikon’s F). When I lived in Tokyo in 1990-1991, Nikon F4 was the top-of-the-line of Nikon SLR camera’s. I saw it in particular in Shinjuku Bic Camera store when I bought there, in December 1990 my Nikonos V.

Nikon F4 incorporates many astonishing engineering features as the double vertical-travel curtain shutter capable of the 1/8000s. Compared to the Nikon F3, the F4 was an AF SLR operated by a CCD sensor (200 photo sites). The film is automatically loaded, advanced with to top speed of 5,7 frame/s !! With the MB-21 power grip (F4s version). The F4 is a very heavy camera (1.7kg with the AF Nikkor 1.4/50mm), incredibly tough and well constructed. This exemplary is devoid of any scratches or marks, and in a condition proving that it was not used for hard professional appliances, for those it was however intended. The camera has still it original Nikon neck strap, the original user manual in French. The lens is protected by a Cokin (Franc) Skylight 1A 52mm filter and the original Nikon front cap. The two small LCD displays (one on the F4 body, one in the DP-20 finder) are both affected by the classical syndrome of « bleeding ». Fortunately, all information could still be read. One says that 70% of the early Nikon F4 suffer from this problem but also found on other models.

According its serial number and the production rate of about 5000 units/month, this Nikon F4s was probably manufactured in Mito, Ibaraki, Japan in May 1989.

The camera was exported abroad thereafter attested by the presence of the golden oval little sticker("Passed" on the DP-20 viewfinder. In order to certify the quality production, two Japanese organizations, the Japan Camera Industry Institute (JCII) and the Japan Machinery Design Center (JMDC), joined forces to verify and mark the conformity of products for the foreign market. This is how, between the 1950s and 1980s, this famous little gold sticker was affixed, with the legendary "Passed", meaning that the device had been checked. Finally, when we say that the device had been checked, the production line had been checked because each device could not be checked individually.

About the flash :

I received from a German seller for 50€ this Nikon Speedlight electronic flash SB-26 that was, at the time of Nikon F4, the most powerful dedicated Nikon flash (Guide Number 36 at full power and 100 ISO).

The SB-26 communicates with the Nikon F4 body (and many other Nikon camera's) and can be operated in many different modes including TTL real-time metering with automatic equilibration of the ambient light using the 5-zone matrix metering done by the DP-20 photometric viewer as well in the center-weighted mode. Other possibilities include the normal TTL mode, an Auto mode using the own sensor of the flash and a manual mode with 7 power levels.

The flash head can cover the optical field from super-wide angle lenses 18-20mm, wide-angle lenses 28mm and 35mm, normal lenses 50mm, and long-focal lenses at 70mm and 85mm. The head can be rotated according two axis for indirect lightening. In addition, the SB-26 has a special focusing aid for the Nikon F4 autofocus system, projecting in the the darkness a red focusing image. SB-23 flash can be also used as master or slave flash in a coordinated flash system.

The flash requires 4 AA alkaline cells for approximately 100 lights at full power and much more with energy recycling at lower power levels.

KANAL - Centre Pompidou!

13 months of exhibitions and shows before conversion work begins

Before it becomes the largest cultural institution in Brussels, with 35,000 m2 devoted to artistic creation in all its forms, KANAL - Centre Pompidou proposes a unique cultural immersion in the buildings of the former Citroen garage.

Before conversion work begins, KANAL - Centre Pompidou will open its doors from May 2018 until June 2019 to allow the public to discover an exceptional cultural heritage, rich in history and preserved in its current state. Benefiting from the richness of the collections of the Centre Pompidou, the former Citroen garage will turn into a site hosting several exhibitions mixing visual arts, design, architecture, major installations and creations by Brussels-based artists, as well as a programme of performing-arts shows co-produced for this occasion with many of the city's cultural actors.

A future cultural hub

The ambition of KANAL - Centre Pompidou is to offer a centre of culture and exchange open to all, to put the creative scene of Brussels in the limelight, and to contribute to the capital's cultural appeal.

Driven by the Brussels-Capital Region, this ambitious project seeks to provide Brussels with a cultural hub favourable to the aura of the capital of Europe. In the context of a ten-year partnership with the Centre Pompidou, the future KANAL - Centre Pompidou will not only house a museum of modern and contemporary art, but also the rich collections of architecture and urbanism of the CIVA Foundation. It will also accommodate many public spaces with a range of functions, including several stages for the performing arts.

A wide-ranging programme

Events imagined in response to the identity of the site and its unique aesthetic qualities, but also its history

From 5 May 2018 until 10 June 2019, following a radically experimental approach, the former Citroen garage will turn into a platform open to a reflection on the stakes of the museum of the future. Curated by Bernard Blistene, the director of the Musee national d'art moderne, Centre Pompidou, a multidisciplinary programme will seek to fill the spaces that were recently emptied of their functions and left in their current state. Many of the proposals seek to echo the identity of the site, but also its human and social history, tangible across the different workshops and offices and in the different fittings of this vast complex.

Eager to integrate Kanal - Centre Pompidou in its context, the programme will let a vast audience have access, in one and the same venue, to a wide-ranging and unique cultural offer. The programme follows the rhythm of the Brussels cultural calendar, in partnership with, among others, Kunstenfestivaldesarts, BOZAR, Performatik Festival, Flagey, Kaaitheater and La Raffinerie (Charleroi Danse).

You will not meet a happier boy then Mickey. If he wants to get your attention he smiles or rolls over on his back for a belly rub. Mickey is a loving, devoted companion dog. He enjoys car rides and walks. He is an avid swimmer & will retrieve a stick in the lake until you are tired. But he's happiest just being by your side.

Mickey is housebroken and is not destructive so he does not require a crate. He knows sit, stay, down, roll over, bed and catches food in the air and is willing to learn more tricks in his Forever Home. He is already neutered, Micro chipped and vaccinated.

Mickey came to Stray Rescue as a stray a couple of years ago while we were working to rescue a pack of dogs living in a cemetery. Mickey was adopted for almost a year but was returned to Stray Rescue after the family neglected to treat an ear infection & complained he was "crabby". Instead of taking him to the vet, the family returned him. He is perfectly healthy now so Mickey is just looking for a loving home but he prefers to be the only pet.

Mickey is eligible for the Seniors for Seniors Program which Stray Rescue waives the adoption fee for adopters over the age of 60. Fill out a Questionnaire/Application to find out when you can meet him at an adoption event. He qualifies for our Foster Program and Rent a Pet.
