My next three shots, including the above seen one, are devoted to the combination of HDR processing along with Orton Effect. An atmospheric effect that suits more (in my opinion) still subjects !!! An effect that transforms the image from a plain, good no doubt frame, into a "blurred" yet absolutely "concrete" photographic message !!! Into an absolutely refined "dreamy" concept !!! Keep your eyes still on the tree for example and you will "feel" more than its plain figure !!! You will feel its very three dimensional existence !!!
I definitely encourage you to try it my friends !!!! See my personal attempts on this "stunning" photo processing alternative "point of view" !!! www.flickr.com/photos/emil9497photography__art/sets/72157... ..... Some more will follow !!!

The island of Versailles is an artificial island of 1.7 hectares, created in 1831 and originally occupied by tanners and shipwrights, was transformed into a Japanese garden from 1983. The composition of the rock gardens and waterfalls are structured around 3 buildings inspired by traditional Japanese housing. Among them, the Maison de l'Erdre, surrounded by a Zen garden, serves as a setting for exhibitions devoted to the river and its aquatic environment. Located in the heart of the island, the Maison de l'Erdre is inspired by a Japanese tea pavilion in which the master of the house receives his guests: The design is inspired by the achievements of Japanese architects and recreates a natural landscape . Maple trees and Scots pines cut into cloud trees structure the garden. The bamboo beds recreate an Asian atmosphere. Azaleas, rhododendrons, cherry trees and cherry trees herald spring with their flowering, echoing what nature expresses in Japan. The Erdre house, designed as a tea pavilion, houses aquariums. The island of Versailles, located on the Erdre in Nantes, is an artificial island that was made with earthworks and dredging materials during the digging of the Nantes-Brest canal. The landscape recreated and structured by rockeries, waterfalls and ponds is richly planted with exotic plants such as bamboos, bald cypresses, rhododendrons, camellias and Japanese cherry trees.

Each year I buy a few of those expensive beauties to photograph in the studio, same this year, they last forever, I had two varieties, this is the pink, the other still to come.
It is a labour of love for me to find 'different' lighting and angles to bring out their unique beauty, the petals so tightly concentrated in the heart and cascading out in full glory.
Today, the chrysanthemum is a quintessential Japanese flower.
Western-style spray chrysanthemums or yogiku are becoming popular as cut flowers and garden plants in Japan, but respect is still attached to traditional, disbudded types, the big blooms often duo toned, collectively known as kotengiku or antique chrysanthemums.
*Name: comes from the Greek "krus anthemon” meaning gold (bronze) flower.
Today they come in all colours.
*History: The chrysanthemum has been known since before 5000BC in a small yellow form.
*Origin: China and Japan.
*Colours: all colours from white to deep purple, bronze, lime green and brick red – except blue (which are artificially dyed for special events)
*Family: Relatives include Chamomile, Marguerite.
*Varieties: they come in a range of shapes and sizes, including spiders, spoons, buttons and blooms.
*Trivia and Facts: The Chrysanthemum is depicted on Japan's imperial weapons and flag. Japan also has a national festival devoted to the flower (9 Sept).
*Mythology: Some countries (such as Malta) think it is unlucky to have the flower indoors.
*It is associated with funerals and All Saints Day.
*Medicinal: Feng Shui adherents believe the chrysanthemum brings laughter and happiness to your home. Teas are made with the leaves to help relieve from flue.
I wish you all a lovely day and thank you for your visit, M, (*_*)

The Antas temple is a Punic-Roman temple devoted to the worship of the Sardinian goddess Sardus Pater Babai (Sid Addir for the Carthaginians). It is located about a dozen kilometers south of the village of Fluminimaggiore, in an area where Roman and Carthaginians have been occupied, attracted by the abundant lead, silver and iron deposits in the territory.
The Roman temple was built for the will of Emperor Augustus (27 BC-14 AD) and restored during Caracalla (213-217 AD) on the Punic temple area. The temple was discovered in 1836 by General Alberto La Marmora and assumed the present form after the reconstruction of 1967. The front of the temple is made up of six columns, four fronts and two sides on the sides, eight meters high and having capitals of Ionic order. Originally there was also a triangular pediment. The central cell was accessible through two side openings. A part of a mosaic is visible on the floor of the cell. Finally, the sacred part of the temple is equipped with two square receptacles, about one meter deep, which contained the water used in purification rites. The frontal staircase, through which it came to the podium, consisted of various shelves including the one dedicated to the altar, which, according to the canons of the time, was outside the temple. Probably there was a statue of Sardus Pater Babai who, judging by the size of a finger found on the spot, could have a height of about 3 meters. In the temple area, votive gifts such as statues and coins were found.

That's why Russian artists and poets devoted themselves to the forest, to the awakening of the nature of spring.
Walking in the forest is a source of positive emotions. And this is not the only benefit for a person who decides to wander among the trees. By doing such promenades, we improve blood pressure levels, relieve our psyche, enjoy and calm down. Stress goes away and these factors are only marked with a "plus" sign. The natural power of the forest promotes the healing and rejuvenation of the body, and Nordic walking greatly increases the positive effect.
The magical effect of forest walks is achieved due to the unique composition of the air. Phytoncides secreted by plants are capable of killing pathogenic bacteria. The coniferous forest has the highest concentration of these substances, but birch, oak and maple also contribute to enriching the air in the forest. Phytoncides are able to cope with the pathogens of pertussis, tuberculosis and other pathogenic bacteria. It is believed that the air in a young coniferous forest is almost sterile: young seedlings emit many times more phytoncides than adult trees. Aeroions or "aerial vitamins" are another useful component of forest air. They not only boost immunity, but also improve performance, emotional state and prolong youth.

Прогулки в лесу.
- - - - - - - - - -

Holi 2024: Holi is one of the biggest Hindu festivals that celebrates the victory of good over evil. From date to history, here is all you need to know.
Two days are devoted to the festivities, with Dhulandi or Rangwali Holi coming after Choti Holi or Holika Dahan. It marks the victory of good over evil. It takes place in the Hindu month of Phalgun, which falls between February and March. People celebrate the day with balloons, flowers, water and colours. Adults and children apply gulal to each other and ask their elders for blessings.
This farmland is on the Cottesbrooke Hall Estate, which is about ten miles due north of Northampton. The county of Northamptonshire has no cities and is largely rural, with most of the gently rolling countryside devoted to agriculture. There are numerous pretty stone-built villages. Several important rivers have their sources in the north-west of the county, including the River Nene, which flows north-eastwards to The Wash, and the "Warwickshire Avon", which flows south-west to the Severn.
Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;
Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.
And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.
And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.

This temple was devoted to Kunthunatha, 17th Theerthankara of Jain faith. This was built by Irugaraya, Commander-in-Chief of Harihara II in 1386 AD. The lamp post is a single granite stone standing more than 40ft tall. Inscriptions on the pillar throw a great deal of light on the early years of Vijaya Nagara Empire. The temple (now dilapidated) has its architecture strongly related to the late Chalukya period

Devoted to Pierre-Louis Ligier as my new friend and a resident of this lovely town.
The Pont Saint-Bénézet, also known as the Pont d'Avignon, is a famous medieval bridge in the town of Avignon, in southern France.
A wooden bridge spanning the Rhône between Villeneuve-lès-Avignon and Avignon was built between 1177 and 1185. This early bridge was destroyed forty years later during the Albigensian Crusade when Louis VIII of France laid siege to Avignon. Beginning in 1234 the bridge was rebuilt with 22 stone arches. It was abandoned in the mid-17th century as the arches tended to collapse each time the Rhône flooded making it very expensive to maintain. Four arches and the gatehouse at the Avignon end of the bridge have survived. The Chapel of Saint Nicholas sits on the second pier of the bridge. It was constructed in the second half of 12th century but has since been substantially altered. The western terminus, the Tour Philippe-le-Bel, is also preserved.

On October 5th 2010 the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown was inaugurated in Lisbon, Portugal. Designed by the architect, Charles Correa, this project returned to the public a part of the important riverside area of Pedrouços, next to Belem. At the point where the RIver Tejo meets the Atlantic and from where the great Portuguese navigators once set sail, the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown seeks to celebrate not only the area’s epic past but also an outstanding moment in the recent history of our country.

The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope has observation time devoted to Saturn each year, thanks to the Outer Planet Atmospheres Legacy (OPAL) program, and the dynamic gas giant planet always shows us something new. This latest image heralds the start of Saturn's "spoke season" with the appearance of two smudgy spokes in the B ring, on the left in the image.
The spokes are enigmatic features which appear across Saturn’s rings. Their presence and appearance varies with the seasons — like Earth, Saturn is tilted on its axis and therefore has four seasons. With Saturn's much larger orbit, each season lasts approximately seven Earth years. Equinox occurs when the rings are tilted edge-on to the Sun and marks the height of spokes’ visibility, while during a solstice when the Sun is at its highest or lowest latitude, the spokes disappear.
The shape and shading of spokes varies — they can appear light or dark, depending on the viewing angle, and sometimes appear more like blobs than classic radial spoke shapes, as seen here. The ephemeral features don't last long, but as the planet's autumnal equinox approaches on 6 May 2025, more will appear.
Scientists will be looking for clues to explain the cause and nature of the spokes. It's suspected they are caused by interaction between Saturn's magnetic field and the solar wind, which also causes aurorae to appear on the planet. The hypothesis is that spokes are the smallest, dust-sized, icy ring particles being temporarily electrically charged and levitated, but this has not been confirmed.
Saturn's last equinox occurred in 2009, while the NASA/ESA/ASI Cassini spacecraft was orbiting the gas giant planet for close-up reconnaissance. With Cassini's mission completed in 2017, Hubble is continuing the work of long-term monitoring of changes on Saturn and the other outer planets.
[Image description: A close-up image of the planet Saturn. The rings are level with the viewer, and tilted slightly down.]

Though it's clearly Chilly Autumn, Nature still allows Field Bindweed, Convolvulus arvensis, to tangle around along the ancient pilgrimage way down the Meuse River from Venlo to Genooi. Contemplating on the little Chapel there devoted to Our Lady, I could not but be reminded of the White Lilly, her particular flower. And seeing Convolvulus, I thought of great Pliny the Elder's (23-79) aside in his Natural History's discussion of Lilium candidum, Madonna Lily. That great naturalist remarks on Convolvulus's likeness to Lily except for its scent and the Lily's yellow stamens; and he concludes that Nature must've practiced on Convolvulus to perfect her Lillian Skill. An honor indeed for our humble Convolvulus, most often white but here no doubt blushing with pleasure at Pliny's word!
PS Scholars have said that Pliny's Bindweed was Convolvulus saepium and not arvensis; the difference though is not all that great...

January, 9th marks the start of the annual voodoo festival in Benin.
After the official ceremony we were invited in a private home to witness the ceremonial offerings
Voodoo/Vodoun is a name attributed to an West African ancestral religious system of worship and ritual practices, where specific deities are born and honored, along with the veneration of ancient and recent ancestors who earlier served the same tutelary deities.
Since 1994, Voodoo has officially decreed as an official religion, Voodoo festival continues to be the country’s most colorful and vibrant annual celebration.
Similar to any other religion, Benin’s voodoo practitioners remain strong and devoted to their religion, as Benin’s leading religion is animism.
The Voodoo Festival is held on the 9th of January at Allada in remembrance ‘Adjahounto’ the initiator of voodoo and 10th of January as a national festival at Ouidah (at the site of Dagbokonou and across the country).
Novena Day 4 -
St. Thomas, Devoted to the Mother of God
“As mariners are guided into port by the shining of a star, so Christians are guided to heaven by Mary"
Prayer
O most blessed and sweet Virgin Mary,
Mother of God, filled with all tenderness,
Daughter of the most high King,
Lady of the Angels,
Mother of all the faithful,
On this day and all the days of my life,
I entrust to your merciful heart my body and my soul,
all my acts, thoughts, choices,
desires, words, deeds,
my entire life and death,
So that, with your assistance,
all may be ordered to the good
according to the will of your beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ....
From your beloved Son...
request for me the grace to resist firmly
the temptations of the world, the flesh and the devil....
My most holy Lady,
I also beseech you to obtain for me
true obedience and true humility of heart
So that I may recognize myself truly
as a sinner--wretched and weak--
and powerless,
without the grace and help of my Creator
and without your holy prayers....
Obtain for me as well,
O most sweet Lady,
true charity with which from the depths of my heart
I may love your most holy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ,
and, after Him,
love you above all other things....
Grant, O Queen of Heaven,
that ever in my heart
I may have fear and love alike
for your most sweet Son....
I pray also that, at the end of my life,
you,
Mother without compare,
Gate of Heaven and Advocate of sinners....
will protect me with your great piety and mercy....
and obtain for me, through the blessed and glorious Passion of your Son
and through your own intercession,
received in hope, the forgiveness of all my sins.
When I die in your love and His love,
may you direct me
into the way of salvation and blessedness.
Amen.
Novena prayer
St. Thomas Aquinas, patron of students and Catholic schools, I thank God for the gifts of light and
knowledge he bestowed on you, which you used to build up the Church in love. I thank God, too,
for the wealth and richness of theological teaching you left in your writings. Not only were you a
great teacher, you lived a life of virtue and you made holiness the desire of your heart. If I cannot
imitate you in the brilliance of your academic pursuits, I can follow you in the humility and charity
which marked your life. As St. Paul said, charity is the greatest gift, and it is open to all. Pray for
me that I might grow in holiness and charity. Pray also for Catholic schools, and for all students. In
particular, please obtain the favor I ask during this novena (mention your request). Amen

Following on from my post about David Garrick's villa in Hampton, this is his rather splendid Temple to Shakespeare, which he built in his riverside garden.
Garrick, widely regarded as England’s greatest actor/manager, was devoted to Shakespeare and frequently appeared in his plays on the London stage. He consulted the landscape gardener Lancelot 'Capability' Brown, who lived nearby at Hampton Court, about the grounds, and it was he who suggested building a grotto-like tunnel (which still exists) under the road between the house and the riverside part of the grounds. He also suggested creating serpentine paths, which have recently been reconstructed in the Temple Lawn gardens.
The octagonal Temple was built in 1755-6 not only to entertain visitors but also to house some of Garrick’s mementos to his beloved Shakespeare, which he had collected over the years. The riverside grounds are freely open to the public, and the Temple is open on selected days.
Garrick died in 1779 and, appropriately, was buried in Westminster Abbey beneath the foot of Shakespeare.
