Devil's Falls from a couple weeks ago when it was flowing well. Since then we had two weeks of warm weather, but thankfully winter has returned this weekend and we are getting some more much needed rain. I am praying it continues well into April this year. We need so much more rain here in CA.

On a ridge, visible from the boardwalk leading to Lake Osborne, piles of these boulders are assembled, demonstrating how glaciers carved out this alpine region and dumped these massive rocks onto the plateau.

The view is spectacular, especially in the early morning when I set out to make this image.

Is this an MRI scan of the brain's blood-vessels? No, just a twin picture of a dead tree. Converted this picture into a PS brush, making it mirror by accident by pushing 'flip horizontal'. Automatically a Rorschach test developed. This time as a structure instead of stains.

In the middle, from top to bottom, if you take a careful look, all kinds of Develish faces appear. And in the black hole above the 'eyes', there is a centerpiece resembling the Holy Virgin. From a distance the whole picture becomes a face. The Devil is not only in the details...

Not for people with a tendency to metaphysics!

Best seen on black.

Left work at 2, went home and packed and hit the road....Really needed R&R trip this time! This spot is from an area of the parkway that I don't frequent enough between Hillsville,Va and Boone,Nc. Some really beautiful places along here. Awesome cloud action throughout the afternoon.

Grandfather Mountain tomorrow morning ( clouds willing) and then on to Asheville. Gosh, I love vacation!

Tintern Abbey from the 'Devil's Pulpit' - a small rocky outcrop that overlooks the abbey. According to local legend, the Devil used to preach from the outcrop and attempt to seduce the abbey's monks away from Christianity.

Devils Island is part of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore on Lake Superior in Ashland County, near the city of Bayfield and is the northernmost point in Wisconsin. First lit in 1901, the 80' white iron tower at the northern end of the island is topped with a third-order Fresnel lens and continues to this day to be an active aid to navigation. When it was first built the tower was a cylindrical tube, with short buttresses attached to its base. It was soon discovered that high winds caused the tower to shake violently, and the present exterior braces were put in place in 1914. Devils Island eventually became the last manned station in the Apostle Islands. This era finally ended in 1978 when the Devils Island Light was automated as well, marking the end of over a century of lightkeepers tending lights in the Apostle Islands. Devils Island is accessible only by boat and the station retains its fog signal building, oil houses and two brick Queen Anne keeper's dwellings.

As I was heading out to visit some areas we stopped at Devils Tower to grab a few shots. It had been raining a good amount so we kept moving but it was a cool sight to see.

It seems to have become tradition for Brussels Airlines to decorate an Airbus to celebrate their football team. Including a pair wearing identical liveries about ten years ago, there have now been four aircraft so painted.

This one, OO-SNO, reflects the modern era by also promoting the women's side who are nicknamed the Red Flames, the men's team having the moniker the Red Devils.

The aircraft was launched in this livery on 15th November 2022.

The Flügelaltar mit dem Jüngsten Gericht / Wing Alter of the Last Judgment, around 1525, in the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin is a remarkable artwork worthy of close-up study. Cranach painted this accurate copy of Hieronymus Bosch’s altar (now in Vienna) probably on commission from the Elector of Saxony. The small section on the Garden of Eden is fairly normal but the rest of the work is literally hell on earth.

The devil really is in the details here. Men and women stripped naked are tortured and punishment in all kind of ways by devils and beasts. Naked bodies are tormented in multitudes in hell while only very few souls are saved to ascend to heaven.

This really is hell on earth as the actual entrance to hell is painted on the right panel. Apparently the male / female balance is quite neutral and a logical progression from a couple sinning in paradise and being chased out into the world.

It is quite interesting to compare Bosch’s vision of hell with other paintings in the museum, especially those by Italian painters that were strongly influenced by Dante.

The Gemäldegalerie (Painting Gallery) in Berlin is one of the largest and best Old Master's art museums in the world. Top highlights include early German artists, Flemish painters, and the Dutch Golden Age (16 Rembrandt paintings). The Italian collection is equally impressive with a fantastic Renaissance display by all major artists and fine works from the Baroque and Rococo eras.
